So, on the new car the Tri-Star logo that lives on the front of the engine cover was missing. Clearly visible were five pins that used to hold the emblem in place. A Google Search confirmed that I was not the only one...and, this is a hard (impossible) to get part. @JesseB also seems to be missing his....
I checked my C240, E350, and GLS550...each one has a different logo size! Odd, very odd. What is more odd - in my tool cabinet I had an old hood emblem that fell off of my C240 in a car wash....perfect fit! Simply cut off the stud from the ring, get some high temp RTV and away you go!
Yeah, not perfect. It is not a show car and it is far better than missing it entirely. Plus, the metal one is to me a bit better looking than the one on my other cars. It has a brighter shine.
Close enough! Sounds like OP didn't have many options besides searching the ends of the earth or buying a whole new cover. These cars are a PITA enough to be futzing over an emblem IMO.

Damn you're right - looked at the original vehicle packet when I purchased the car and the mesh was there. I had to glue it back on a year ago when it fell off so that mesh must be an insert and it went bye bye.
