RE: Alignment with spacers on

I brought my car to the dealer for alignment today. After 1 hour waiting, they told me they couldn't align it because of the spacers. They told me they have to remove the spacers, align, and put the them back. They wanted to charge me extra $200 for remove/install spacers . To me, if my car has the spacers on, it should be aligned with the spacers and that's why I did not get it done. A local shop can do the alignment with spacers on. I thought the dealer would do a better job. If you have spacers, how do you get the alignment done?

It should be aligned with the spacers - the camber has possibly changed.

dealer most likely doesn't want a liability issue doing an alignment on a modified car - this isn't uncommon behavior these days for dealers.

have the Indy shop do it

For Mercedes dealers, they don’t want the liability risk. Take it to Firestone which I’ve done with all my AMGs, pass and present without a problem. Firestone uses hunter ailment machine which is the most accurate alignment machine available and they have, the $299 for lifetime alignment which means you can get an ailment every day of the week except holiday if you wanted to. I do run spacers on most of my cars, just be sure the lug nuts are long enough ( Torque it to 110 pounds of torque ) to fit the spacers and definitely have the alignment done with the spacers on and if you decide to take them off down the road, get another alignment done.

I called a local Firestone, they told me they don't work on AMG models because they don't have the specs. Not all Firestone are the same I guess. Thanks.

That’s odd. I had purchased the lifetime warranty for all the AMGs I’ve owned from the W212 E63, W222 S63 and now the W213 E63s wagon without any issues. This can’t be a California thing.

The spacer cannot change the specs... 1 degree of camber at the hub is still one degree 10ft away. Its a liability thing IMO

Apparently they have to pay a whack of $ for licensing to have the ability to plug into the computer and re-center the steering wheel angle adjustment keeping all the lane assist and other crap in check and calibrated properly with the cameras etc.

Here I used to use "Active Green and Ross" who were very good. Then this year they said they could not do my car anymore. They weren't doing enough fancy Mercedes and chose not to renew that subscription. I go to the dealer now. They do a good job, it's just annoying waiting 2 weeks for an appointment. Active Green and Ross I could just drive in.

Keep in mind “spacers” or not - stark reality is all Dealers or Align shops have “nothing to adjust” except basic ‘Toe’ - directional adjustment !

No Camber (or Caster) essential to adjust / correct tire “contact angles”, spread load more evenly.

To resolve costly, premature, excessive edge tire wear encountered in day to day commuting.

High cambered roads with excess passenger side edge wear, wheel squat through load carrying or lowering. Fitting wide profile tires. Or just having “ongoing” adjustment capability for curb knock damage.

New car industry’s best kept secret. It is all to do with cost cutting and ever increasing speed of auto assembly lines.

We saw the need to re instate from the 90’s Front Camber and Caster along with Rear Camber (and extra Toe) adjustment.

*All W212 models you can fit (Front only) offset Cam bolts - but they are inaccurate one position offering a miniscule 1/8” (.3 of one degree).

K-MAC unique patented design Front and Rear kits replace the 4 highest wearing bushes and at the same time provide 4 times the adjustment range !

FIXING IT RIGHT THE 1st. TIME - ALLOWING SINGLE WRENCH ULTIMATE ADJUSTMENT - “UNDER LOAD” DIRECT ON ALIGNMENT RACK.
