One more Wiring Harness oil leak thread
#26
I can now confirm this kit from zzperformance(this vendor is very known in the GM crowd especially with cts-v's) fits our w212 m157 motor. Just installed all 8 harnesses and car fires right up and runs perfectly fine. Like someone said earlier, makes me sleep better at night knowing all 8 are there, as well as new magnets and cam sensors.

Quick Update
MB of Beverly Hills confirmed oil in the harness and ECU. The parts and labor quote came up to 15K 😳; still waiting for detailed info, will post as soon as I have it.
Opened a case with MB USA, waiting for a callback.
Will keep you guys posted on any changes and developments.
Any tips, suggestions, and direction are very highly appreciated!

this car has been meticulously maintained at the dealer, techs should have picked up on this before end of warranty, a good will coverage is in order here, and they let you drive it off the lot with this issue going on risking a breakdown.

Visit the eBay link and purchase the 4 camshaft sensor harness you need. Make sure it has 3 wires!

ok so I just bought the kit. Is the idea to just unplug them and check if they have oil this throwing them away? Or do they have some sort deal where they won’t allow wicking to get past them?

It's alot easier to remove the entire section and clean it properly with electrical cleaner(form of brake clean, but safer for electrical components), and reuse. Now if your leak is so bad that it's pissing out oil because you refuse to replace leaking sensors, than you need to address that

if oil detected in the sacrificial harness - replace the sensor leaking oil and get new sacrificial harness
rinse and repeat
the sacrificial harness doesn't prevent or slow the creep, it just provides a section of harness you can throw away that doesn't infect the actual OEM engine harness.

same, I had one cps with a bit of oil leak and all were replaced as well as two pucks that I could get to, then I added sacrificial harnesses to the pucks (all four) and soon, to all four cps

Got a call back from "Mary without the last name" from MB USA.
Per Mary, they will provide goodwill assistance of 50% of the dealer quote, which still came up to $7,800 😳. That's it, nothing else.
Full replacement of sensors, solenoids, wiring harness, and ECU. Engine and the subframe have to be dropped for this replacement.
Service advisor assured me that the final cost would be significantly lower - will see about that...
Bottom line, I am going to bite the bullet and authorize the repair. Fingers crossed.

Unless you're ready to flip the car and sell it. But it's now hard to sell it with this issue being documented.
also once you're settled and it's fixed you're wise to add the 8 sacrificial harnesses to your new harness.

i would move forward too unless I knew an Indy that could do the work for significantly less, at least 20% less.

The reason I opted for a more expansive offer from the dealer is the "saleability" of the car. Since the dealer had to be involved, the issue is already documented.
I thought that documented issue that the dealer has rectified looks much better than a documented issue indicating customer refusal to proceed with the repair and no documented resolution.

I have a quote from the local indy shop I used for years, and it's significantly less - $5,500 out the door.

Typical dealership to miss certain things. When I first brought in the car for an inspection they showed me what they recommended.
they I brought it in again and they fixed one thing then added more that were not on the first inspection. Then I brought it back for something else and they added more and finally told me that I have oil in the cps.
when I spoke to the tech he said it depends who does the inspection which confirms they don’t seems to have a standardized test and some maybe are more trained to what to look for in certain models.
My quote from dealership and an Indy is similar but to yours @fallen

This sometimes happens to CPO vehicles for example, I unfortunately seen some that just sit down with the checklist and check everything off and pretend the certified pre-owned inspection was done and therefore certified the vehicle.
For that reason, if the job isn't too hard I usually DIY it, at least for sure I know it is actually done and done properly.

Just added these cps extensions
took like 3 minutes ... noticed some oil on the two cps plugs and I just replaced these cps x 4 only 4 months ago and less than 500 miles ago so I think this is residual oil in the harness, still no oil at the Ecu pins.
Ev fanboys have battery anxiety syndrome, m157 fanboys have oil in harness anxiety syndrome ...

Just got these in the mail. Upon disconnecting/inspecting each magnet and solenoid, I am happy to report no oil in the harness. That being said, I didn’t disconnect the battery when I pulled the ECU(which was also clean) for inspection. Other than adaptations, I didn’t harm anything correct(I’m tuned)?
