Lightbulb Want to Buy - W212 E63 AMG

Dear AMG owners

After getting bombarded by fake ads & false information, I decided to get some help from our owners forum at last...

I am arriving in the US within a month and looking to buy a well-looked after W212 E63 AMG example with budget around $15k (lower end of the current market price)
The vehicle location needs to be in California and preferrable close to Bay Area - but I can adopt.

Must haves:
  • 2010-2011 model year with 6.2L V8 M156 engine
  • 2011 models with engine number above #060658 - so no head bolt issues
  • 2010 models with paperwork proving head bolt has been replaced
  • No cam adjuster rattle
  • Full service history
  • 19inch wheels
  • parking sensors
Nice to haves:
  • P30 package with Limited Slip Diff
  • Adaptive cruise control package
  • Black interior
I am open to any high-millage hero as long as they are proved to be well-looked after
And I would love to take some one's precious E63 and extend its life to the next journey with care...

So please let me know if you have anything similar for sale!!!

Best Regards
Thomas Yan

Yes, I have seen a few 100k+ mileage E63s sold for around $15k or even less recently.

These are the three in the country per AT in his price range - ? unlikely will have all the other requirements as listed in the OP ...

as mentioned - these will be unlikely to fulfill all your requirements - best of luck - it's a kick *** car and worthy of the search

I’d suggest a nationwide search as you are asking to find a lower in price in a region that carries the highest prices in the US.

Good luck. Ive not run across one w212 in that range with head bolts listed as “fixed”

Thanks Baltistyle, indeed that's what I am doing now.

And surprisingly almost nobody even tried to fix the head bolt issues as the car is 13-14 years old.

1. Either the issues are over-exaggerated
2. Or the fix is so expensive that not worth doing - do you know how much it would cost in the US?

Thanks a lot!

If the budget is fixed below $15,000 and regardless of how well maintained the car is, the higher mileage will surely put the car in a risky situation for future maintenence?

The most expensive car you will ever buy is a cheap Mercedes. I speak from experience on this one. You are better off buying one for more money that has recently had all the updates you are looking for. Just one issue will bridge the gap quickly and then, depending on your financial situation, you are either cash poor or have a paperweight in your driveway.

I've had great overall luck with my 2010 E63 purchased three years ago with 124k miles.
Sorted out a few minor issues at my Indy mechanic when I first got it but since then it's been rock solid and runs like a top.
Currently sitting at 133k miles and loving every minute of it, always a thrill to drive.

Not picking on you but it reminds me of a fellow on the forum with 15k miles on his 230 Mercedes SL bragging about how trouble free his ABC suspension has been. Meanwhile, my SL with around 100k miles was having its 4th or 5th ABC pump replaced. Really, 9k miles in 3 years? Dang, if that doesn't prove reliability, I don't know what does.

Good point Faast, yeah I agree with the logic.
That's why I am stating "around $15k".
I am happy to pay a bit more if the condition/ spec is in better positions or some major work has been done.

So still looking!

As I mentioned, $15k is a starting point, I am happy to pay a bit more if the condition/spec is right or major works have been done.

This might be true.

Hence why I am trying to find one cost a bit less at the purchase.
So that I can save myself a little bit buffer for the future repair cost.

But why the expensive repair cost is only true for Mercedes?
Don't other cars like BMW/ Audi have the same issue?

Or their repair cost is much cheaper than Mercedes in the US?

Happy for you! That's my plan as well, a high-mileage E63 that has reasonable price

Have your head bolts been done before your purchase?
Are you planning to fix it?

Any other common issues you have experienced?
e.g. timing adjusters/ collapsed air suspensions etc

What is the ABC pump?
You mean ABS pump?
Is it a common issue?

Maybe something I should look out for... Thanks

I have always said

" You either pay upfront and drive a nice car"
or
" you pay later with lots of headache"

Choice is yours!
