I encourage anyone with that warranty extension and with the P030085 code to visit their nearest Benz dealer.
Well, that's good news. I'm curious, is only one cylinder head affected by whatever defect is causing these problems, or both? Is the dealer replacing only one head or both? I'm surprised they have to pull the engine to replace the head(s). Of course, that may be the easiest and least costly way to go.

Did they also run a series of tests (compression/leak down) at the dealer prior to authorizing the replacement? If so did they share results of such tests?

I definitely haven't closed out my claim with ebay, but more or less have just kept the representative in the loop. At the very least with the hopes of getting some change back that led up to the dealership visit, but we shall see. The advisor told me that the either the valve guide or seat ring had failed, causing cylinder scoring and the misfires. I have not been up to the dealership to speak with him personally but will be doing so next week once they have a loaner available. The warranty only covers the cylinder that was affected, and I was made aware that they checked the other. I've got about 4k into this car that I have driven maybe 350 miles, but I got it for pretty cheap (40k) compared to others I've seen circulating.... i see why now... Had this not been a wagon and in pretty much great condition outside of this, I would have not gone this far with it. However, everything in me fell in love with this wagon. It was purchased to be my DD and keep me at bay a little longer before buying another car.

very nice, enjoy the beast!

and if I missed it - how many miles on the car?

while the engine is out:
- check main wiring harness for oil
- replace all cps (x4) and solenoids (x4) and add pigtail extensions

Not sure where my post from last night went but my question is do they know that the car was tuned? Hopefully Mercedes will not find the tune and then stick you with the bill. Definitely keep open the claim with ebay because you dont know what caused this and one would hope there is a diagnostic to the reason so that it does not happen again. Valve guide or seat ring mentioned, so have they seen a stuck valve? Wouldn't a non moving valve not allow any compression? or is the air leaking past the valve guide and seal and the valve still moves? If the valve still moves and closes, wouldn't the compression be as normal unless there is a piston issue and or heavy scoring? You never mentioned what the boroscope showed. If its badly scored, is the failed guided allowing a dump of carbon from above from the leaky wet cooked oil? Cylinder five was supposedly known for possibly having these issues, though I thought that was on earlier m157 engines and random depending on what casting (with the bad valve seal press on that cylinder) a builder might have grabbed. Just trying to understand the diagnosis better vs a tech that says "they think its x". Do the piston and rod and bearings also get replaced in the cylinder effected?
