2014 E63S Door question

2014 E63S Door question
I drove over a foreign object on the road, and it damaged the sill and door. The repair facility are planning on welding a hole in the door. When I asked if they had welding equipment suitable for aluminum, they said the door was steel. The car is 20 mile away, so to it would be difficult to take a magnet over there to check.

The sales literature says that the doors are aluminum, but little else confirms that.

Can a 2014 E63S owner cover a magnet with a soft cloth and see if it sticks to the outside panel?
