Use 75W-85 unless towing/hauling then 75W-140. MB specs 75W-85 for normal driving. Some prefer 75W-140 for extra protection, but it's not required.

even with LSD running 75w85 won’t harm the lsd diff?
to say the least, it’s suitable?

E63S LSD- 75W-140

I am certain the correct oil for the rear diff
of a W212 E63S is 75w-140 MB P/N: 001989520310
The dealership will sell you Castrol Syntrax 75W-140, and is one of very few approved fluids for that rear diff. 75W-85 is incorrect (although that's the correct weight in the front diff)

could someone please explain? what is going on here?[/QUOTE]

concur

Would like to add data point
Have recently had rear diff oil of our e63s changed at dealer in Toronto.
Fluid listed on invoice is mb part no. 001 989 52 03 10.

I allso looked up on MB's fluids spec website:
https://operatingfluids.mercedes-benz.com/sheet/231.1
which lists 235.61 -75w-140 for AMG rear differential.
