How much have you spent on maintenance & repairs?

All Money Gone
some say…

Parts & Labor
any and all

How much $ have you folks spent on maintenance and repairs since taking ownership.

for any one who is considering to get into W212 C218 AMG. Would perhaps be helpful.

p.s
for those with Extended Warranty, please elaborate.

cheers!

I have a '14 AMG S wagon, USA car, that I purchased CPO off lease at ~15k miles in early 2017. Car currently has 62k miles and I extended the CPO warranty as far as I could. I probably fell out of warranty sometime in 2020 and I broke even with some timing case resealing, new control arms & alignment, transmission mount, oil filter housing, leaking coolant reservoir etc covered during this period. Note that warranty doesn't cover preventative like new plugs & coils.

Post warranty expiration I continued service predominantly with the dealer as while the indy is a little cheaper on labor the parts are similar. I did use an indy a couple of times for availability and once to try and save some significant money that didn't really pan out in the end.

So I've been out of warranty for about 5 years now and have probably spent ~18k on service in that time. The big ticket items were front drivetrain related. Shortly after exiting the warranty period I noticed a tear in the front CV boots, took it to an indy and had them do motor mounts and reboot the axles. Rebooting the axles was false economy as a couple of years later I ended up replacing both axles. Then a year later the front diff was weeping and I had that resealed along with repairing a failed heater hose between the engine and the firewall. Other expensive repairs (above $1k service bill) were thermostat and turbo oil cooler lines, these were done preventatively before they failed. The car is on its third coolant reservoir and the drivers side lower control arm has also been replaced about that many times. For brakes I've swapped to Giro Disc rotors but haven't had to replace the friction rings yet.

I am anticipating the next big bills will be water pump and plugs/coils but that is hopefully a year or two away, I don't put many miles on the wagon and I've also got a new vehicle coming into the fleet in February so might sell the wagon at that time.

All of this should be the same on any sedan/wagon/cls with an AWD M157.

On the good side, the car has never stranded me and is an excellent daily driver.

I just tell my friends that cars depreciate but parts and labor do not.

2016 E63 Wagon
7.5 years of ownership, ~42k miles, ~$13k in maintenance
So around 32 cents/mile.
Since warranty expired (certified pre owned), I'm doing 80+% of the work myself.
The problem (=drug) is the other line in my excel sheet, "mods", which is at $9k.....

All in - money well spent, much happier paying for maintenance and mods than depreciation for a brand new car.
