I have had my 2014 S212 wagon for a few years now, and have just started to notice that the righthand, hatch-mounted, taillight is not as bright as the other three taillights. When the ignition is initially switched on, the taillight brightness matches the rest of the lights, but it soon dims down and remains at a lower brightness. I did some troubleshooting over the weekend, and cannot seem to find an issue. Anyone else had this problem? Is replacing the light the only fix? Car is dirty and I don't have a nighttime picture, but you can tell that it is not shining nearly as bright as the other lights.
Just by chance, you don't have your light switch turned to the left do you? I know that sometmes, turning the knob to the left will make the left side tail light brighter. Assume it's a safety feature for being on the side of the road or something.

The light switch is set to auto. Tried moving it to the left position and the problem remains. Thanks for the input!
These lights are sealed and need to be cut open to effect repairs. The electrical contact pins are simply press fit into each socket and not soldered. If this is not an option for you; replacements are available from time to time on ebay but may or may not have the same issues.
