I feel like as time goes on the exterior aggressiveness on AMG's fade but the performance increases. I prefer the larger taillights that come on the 14-16 for example.
No doubt, however, this car will bring much excitement to this section.
I just traveled over here (coming from the w204 c63) as I am looking to buy a 14/15 e63s. Just curious as to what you guys think about the transition from the 5.5 to the 4.0?
Based on the 2017 E300 and spy shots of the new E63, I bought a used 2014 E63 while expecting to upgrade in 2022-2023 with hopefully a better, appealing redesign. It's the first car I've ever purchased, but I thought the E class was supposed to be Merc's flagship for design rather than a copy of the S class released years ago.
Good find... It is a bit boring, and I agree the smaller tail lights are not as balanced as the W212. Also disappointing to hear there is no intention of designing a "Black Series" wagon... AMG won't go more than 2-doors on Black Series. They forgot to de-badge the grill in that first pic, so it seems pretty legit.
I don't intend on parting with my '14 until the new model is available for the overseas delivery program. I bought mine before that was offered on the AMG.
But I also hate the new Mercedes side mirror style. Seems they took a step backwards with this generation in that regard.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing... I like the hood, but the side mirrors not so much.
I definitely like these (2014) side mirrors better:
The rest of the exterior is growing on me. I wouldn't replace the previous model, but 600+hp, switchable 100% rear torque bias, and the new interior are starting to peak my interest. If they can produce something special with the new nine-speed transmission, this might get interesting.
Yea, it's evoking too much of the CLA look.. I miss the sharp lines of the original W212.. but I do like the 2014's... this just isn't standing out to me.. looking almost like the M5..
Rather bland, but then again so was the new C, until you played with color body combos and added a front splitter and rear flics. Scary to think that it might grow on you.
This reminds me of the early 2000s, when you could not tell apart an S, C or a CL from the rear if there was a distance between you
Seems the germans are all playing the bland look, all models should look similar card
Trying to decide if the 14-16 would look better with a more aggressive hood (such as that 17 or as mentioned the c63 style) or if it would tip the front end into the "too busy" category.

at LEAST they could have done something to differentiate the w212 e63 from its e550/350 siblings ... like hood vents or a slight center bump
^ I think something along the lines of what you see on that 17' would've been nice. I think the vents (like 507/BS c63's) wouldn't be fitting for this car but the raised lines for sure. It's like they can only get the front or the back right per model. Oh well, it is what it is.
