not sure. I would think they will want the upcoming CLS to have this first before the E class since the former commends a slightly higher premium selling price. This is just my guess.

I think facelift is coming sooner. Probably 2020 model year. 2 years out. That would be half way through the cycle for the W213 chassis.
But E55 could come sooner. Look at the C Class - they had the C400 for a year, then C450 for a year, then C43.
E43 is weak sauce compared with its competitor the M550. E55 could be expedited to close this gap.
