2018 E63 or used?
I was in the same boat--but I already own a 2014 e63-s sedan and was debating trading for a 2018. I decided to keep my 2014. And I don't regret it one bit.
The interior lighting of the 2018 and the digital display is leagues above the 2014/2015 model. But I have another car that has the digital stuff and lighting, so I actually prefer the analogue gauges in the 2014 E. What I would suggest is the following--and if you aren't interested in making these mods, then I would suggest getting the new one, bc without the mods, the 2014/2015 becomes less desirable (IMHO).
1. ECU tune--I used AMS and have been incredibly pleased. There are options out there that are significantly lower in price than AMS (AMR is offering a 15% discount and is apparently a pretty reputable company. OE tuning is another one. And then of course, Renntech, etc). Most tunes will require you to send in your ECU. With most tunes, you will make MORE HP and torque than the 2018.
2. Exhaust--again--I used AMS and have been very pleased. Mine's just a cat-back. I didn't want to send in my ECU for a reflash by changing out the down-pipe. I did my ECU tune 3 years ago and just did the exhaust about a month ago. Simply bc I loved the sound of the 2018 and the stock 2014 just didn't do it for me. I came close to pulling the trigger on a Meistersahft, from Vivid racing, but none were available until December earliest. Have been pleased with the AMS though. Fitment was spot on. Excellent craftsmanship.
3. Rims--my stock rims sucked. (I purchased many car sight unseen from a dealership in MD ~3.5 years go with about 3.5K miles on the clock. Unfortunately, without driving it, I wasn't aware that the wheels were bent by the crappy DC streets, They have been a pain in the rear since I took delivery. I had the dealer give me a wheel warranty when I made him aware of the problem, but the warranty only replaces the rims when they stop holding air. One of the rims met this criteria and it was replaced. The others have been repaired but continue to bend again.) So I finally pulled the trigger on a set of HRE FF01s from vivid racing (great, helpful place--ask for Ralph). The car almost like an S class now. Seriously. I feel like I've been gipped for the past 3 years bc the ride was so terrible--and I thought it was just bc of the "AMG suspension/performance sedan" BS. MAJOR IMPROVEMENT in the car with the rims replaced.
4. Extended warranty--my factory warranty ended this year. I bought an extended one from a guy named Troy Dietrich at a Ford/Toyota Dealership in Michigan. Found him on the r8 forum a few years ago. Sells Fidelity Platinum for significantly lower pricing than the dealers. This is the second warranty I've bought from him--nice guy--easy to work with. Good product.
That's my $.02. The new car is certainly fantastic. But the w212 is still a rock-solid platform and I'm not even tempted any more with the changes I've made to look on cars.com or autotrader to see if there are any "deals" to be had on the new one. Good luck with your decision. Whatever you decide--it will be a good choice.
