Dealer extended warranty

One more question about purchase of E amg 63S wagon. My dealer has offered an extended warranty that would take effect after the standard warranty expires. It costs $7100 to extend the factory warranty to 7 years (from 4) and 100,000 miles (from 50,000). Has anyone considered or taken such a warranty? Do you have an opinion as to whether it is a good idea? I plan to keep the car for a long time and I know the service costs can be considerable. Would an independent party extended warranty be a better deal, and if so, do you know a good one? I understand the Mercedes extended warranty is transferable, so suppose it would increase resale value, though I have no plans to sell. I don't put a lot of miles on my cars and I tend to keep them for many years so I very much doubt I would drive 100,000 miles in 7 years (my 2003 SL500 has 46,000 miles and is just nicely broken in). I would appreciate any thoughts or experiences.

I got rid of my 2012 E63 AMG Wagon this past summer after I ordered my new (one month old now) E63 AMG Wagon. I had the 7 year 100K warrantee on my 2012. When I bought it a few years back the cost was $4200.00 and I'd heard they'd gone up in price considerably, I guess so. But you may want to check with other MB dealers who sell these over the internet and discount them considerably. Erin of Santa Rosa CA MB is who I bought mine from. I'm gonna talk with her soon to get a price on it from her, it may be less than what you where quoted. I would strongly suggest only the MB warrantee, I've heard of issues offered by others. Yes you do get back money when you sell. My warrantee was only 1.5 years into it's extra 3 years of coverage over the factory warranty and I got a refund check back from dealer when I sold the car, the car was sold to a MB dealer so they had no use for the warrantee as these are not transferrable when the car is resold by a MB dealer, they put their own warrantee on the car. A lot of people say don't drive these AMG's without a warrantee, especially now with the all the new electronics and such.

Both of my wife's uncles recommended that purchase the extended warranty. They both had AMGs at one point in time, one an E55 but not sure what the other one was. This was before AMG was part of Mercedes, so things may have changed. They both spent a fair bit on repairs once the main warranty ran out.

Generally I don't go for warranties but I figured I'd listen to them as I do plan on keeping the car for a while. The $7200 price sounds like what I remember being quoted. I did hold out for something lower but can't remember what it was, $6950 maybe? Not a lot off the original asking price.

First, you can negotiate the extended warranty at least 10%.
Second, you can decide if you want the extended warranty latter, you can take the decision a month before the warranty expire. Don’t do the mistake I did in buying right away.

Pays to shop around and can buy any time before the original warranty expires. The only risk as others said is that it can go up in price over time. I got a quote from a guy in KY that was 15% below my local dealer.

Yep, you never know when they are gonna raise the prices on these warrantees across the board, they did that shortly after I bought mine on my 212 and it went up like 1500 bucks overnight. Especially whereas a new year is right around the corner who knows?
