Tried to change the interior color of my grey selenite E63 wagon yesterday from black to the nut brown and was told that it would push the order back 3 months due to a shortage of material. I'm not inclined to wait. Can someone tell me how designo interior colors/fabric orders work, including approximate time involved and up-charge in cost?

I have spoken with a guy called Paul LaPenta at MBUSA about this. He told me hat first you place an order with a non-locked allocation and a production date. Then you send that to designo. Designo will then provide you with a quote and a new production date for that designo work. It typically adds 8-12 weeks to your order if it is upholstery and depending on whether it can be done on the line or if it requires the whole car to be sent to the Designo Studio for custom non-line assembly. At the studio they can do anything, at the factory (on the line) they can do simple changes like change the seat color but they probably can't do a full leather interior.
I don't have a good sense of the pricing but my impression is that Mercedes charges way more than BMW or Porsche for custom interiors.
Ugghhh... just put in an order for nut brown - wonder what the impact will be.

This nut brown thing is ridiculous.
If they have only 3 leather choices they shouldn't be running out of leather for one of the colors. The only companies that offer only 2 leather options are ones like Toyota and Honda.
BMW offers 6 orderable leather color choices on the 2019 M5. That's not counting the additional 12 you can get from doing an Individual Manufaktur custom order through M Studio.
