HUD Thoughts

Anyone have any strong views on the HUD feature? The MY19 option set moved it from part of a pkg to a standalone option (I think), so not sure if it's worth getting (never had to think about it).

Is the distronic data presented in the HUD useful? Didn't pay much attention to it on my test drive since it wasn't a choice...

Side note, I realized on a test drive that the HUD is invisible with polarized glasses so I went on a mission to get non-polarized glasses, so now may just need to get the option to justify that exercise...

HUD to me is a novelty feature which is nice to have. If the car does not come with it, it’s not a big loss. If this stand alone item is costing a couple hundred $, then it’s a judgement call to select or not

I have H.U.D on my 2018 Glc 300 and I love it. You don’t miss it if you’ve never had it but once you do you get use to the information being displayed right in your windshield without having to shift your head or line of vision to look down which is a bit of distraction and unsafe even if it’s taking your eyes off the road for a second. It becomes quite handy to keep up to speed limit, navigation and road signs in your direct line of vision.

I think my first HUD ever was with a BMW M car and I have had many since. If I can get it Ill opt for it primarily for the reasons mentioned above: safety. I have it only on two of my current cars and if it was available on the GTS it would have had the box checked.

The E633S one has more color to it and graphics than the C63S version. I still think the most crisp version Ive had is the BMW M5 F10 HUD and the RS7 is really not good at all but it does show the oil temp.

Very helpful guys, thanks for the input. Does the HUD show any distronic info?

My view is HUD is irreplaceable. Most of what you need is projected directly on the windscreen negating the need to repeatedly look at the instrument cluster.

Shows the state of the lane keeping feature. Green hands on the wheel means it will help steer the car, Grey means you’re on your own.

Also shows Nav info, distance to next turn or whatever.

Configurable to three different content styles.

I agree wholeheartedly. My wife’s car has it and, until now, I’ve been incredibly envious. Is it, alone, worth the price of the premium option? No. But as a stand alone, I’d be willing to pay in the hundreds for it.

I think it's a useless gimmick and distraction when really driving. I just dial it down out of sight and wear my polarized sunglasses..

you can turn it off completely using the row of buttons on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I believe it’s 2nd last or last buttton. Can’t remember exactly.

I would get it. It is awesome for navigation.

I don't find it that useful as a shift indicator because it is a bit small. BMW's HUD is much better - especially on the new G30.

If you tilt your head 45 degrees you can still glimpse at HUD with polarized glasses lol
