Thanks to this thread I got the clunking noise fixed quickly and correctly. The dealer even thanked me for suggesting to look at the rear sway bars which saved their time and mine.

Mine was corrected, mostly. But now seems to be coming back.
When I took the car in for the issue, they initially suspected the rear shock/strut, but after replacing the unit the issue was not resolved. They apparently took apart the rear suspension and anti sway bar looking for the issue but didn't see a smoking guy. After reassembly they thought it was mostly cleared, and when I got the car back it seemed OK to me.
But the clunk in the trunk is back and the frequency has been increasing over the past few days. So I guess it has to head back in . . .

I have the clunks in the front, it turned out to be loose brake parts that were not tightened at factory.

Same issue plus strange squeaking inside cabin...like styrofoam rubbing together
I have a 2018 E63s with the same issue as others with the rear clunking. My service guy immediately knew what the issue was with the sway bars. I am waiting for it to be corrected now. The other strange thing is a squeaking noise inside my car (no, it's not a mouse) when I drive. It sounds like 2 pieces of styrofoam rubbing together or some thing. It drives me nuts. What could this be?

As noted earlier, my clunk-in-th-trunk is back after being repaired once.
It started again as an occasional clunk but is now pretty frequent. It has also begun to squeak like you describe above. Noises are often hard to pin down, but it sounds like it's coming from the rear somewhere. The squeak is definitely related to suspension travel. As I roll over some variation in the road that causes the suspension to compress, I'll get the squeak, not every time, but often enough that it's getting quite annoying. It is much more frequent than the clunk.
I'm at 8200 miles and was hoping to hold off till I'm due for my oil change but I don't think I'm going to be able to wait.

Same issue here. I went on Friday and was in/out in 20-30 min. Service guy thanked me also lol. Sway bars weren’t tight. Annoying noise gone (for now).

Does anyone know exactly which bolts on the sway bar aren't tight? A picture would be great. Mine started making this noise and I like fixing simple stuff myself rather than having to deal with the dealer.

The sway bar is tucked way up in there, with the bolts not very easily accessible. I just was curious which ones are loose before fighting with getting a wrench on them. I may just live with it, and have the dealer take care of it at the first service after all

Picked up the car yesterday evening after dropping it off in the morning. Went with a different dealer for service this time. Carefully explained the problem and the steps the previous dealer had taken and hoped for the best.
So far, problem seems resolved.
Comment from tech was "Test drive car, verified noise is coming from left rear area over bumps at angles or when cornering hard. R&R left and right rear wheels. Inspected rear suspension area. Found rear sway bar end links not fully torqued. Torqued left and right rear sway bar end links. Noise no longer present after repairs."
Hopefully this time they stay torqued.

Just an FYI for anyone else with this issue. I found my left upper sway bar end link was about 5 turns loose. The bolt head side isn't possible to get a standard torx socket on, and I wouldn't be surprised if MB has a special tool for this. I just used vice grips to hold that side and tightened up the 16mm nut. Took all of about 5 minutes to fix. It was a good excuse to clean the inside of the wheels and calipers while I was at it. Interestingly the right side was still very tight. So basically if you don't feel like taking it to the dealer and have a jack / basic tools, it's a quick and easy fix.

I finally brought my wagon in to MB to fix the sway bars. Also had a an alignment done since I had never aligned since it was lowered. Can’t believe how much better the car sounds, handles and rides now. Anyone who hasn’t had their sway bars checked out really should. Had the car almost a year and only now can appreciate how it should have felt all along.....

The 2019s aren’t immune to this. 3,000 miles on the car and on Monday I started hearing a knocking sound from the rear left at low speeds.
Thanks to this thread I was able to let the SA know that it was probably the rear sway bar. They tightened it and so far the knocking sound has disappeared.
Have never had to take a car in for service with under 30k miles... still love it though.

What was the Diagnosis on the old E63s?
wondering what the diagnosis is on the old e63s amg. i have a 2014 and am experiencing this exact issue and its been a very frustrating issue.
I think I know why the sway bars are loosened in the back. Since they tightened mine up I get excessive clunking/creaking on my sunroof as I drive up my steep driveway. Or actually anything that flexes the chassis. Argh. The previous E63s suffered from this as well and was a very very labor intensive / costly dealer repair.

Did anyone on this thread have their sway bar clunk recur? I have a 2018 E63S wagon, 50k miles, and clunk has reared its head.
Going to take it in to get torqued and hopefully that solves it -- but curious if anyone else is having this happen as these reach middle age?
