Wanting to get an E63s Wagon
Wanting to get an E63s Wagon
So, looking around my area (Phoenix, AZ) there doesn't seem to be any used or new AMG wagons. I'm thinking that I'll just go to a local dealer and have one built. Anyone have any guidance on that? Is there a long wait list? Anyone discounts? I have 3 AMG dealers close by, so I'll shop them each and see which one is willing to give the best deal. I would be willing to go to SoCal, but I'll be trading in my car and would rather save on the taxes.
And last question, which color? I'm really torn between getting it in white or black.

In the same boat as you but in socal, will be placing an order soon, most likely for Euro deilvery. Just deciding on sedan/wagon and polar white/selenite magno gray. I'd personally go with white just because a black car gets dirty too quickly for me. But it's your call! Good luck.

The Selenite Grey is a very nice color and the Magno version (which I have) is quite nice. The paint is actually quite easy to take care.
Simply wash with soap and water (make sure the soap doesn't have any shine/wax additives) and dry.
The grey magno is nice in that grey doesn't show dust and road dirt as much as white or black, and the magno being a satin or matte finish is shiny without being glossy and a little dust doesn't stand out on it as much as a gloss finish.
There's no allocation if you go through the European Delivery Program. You can order anything you like that way. You also get a 5% discount, plus save the $995 delivery charge. There are some other benefits, but there are some drawbacks too, like waiting for your car to come home from Europe. But I was pleased with the program as a whole.
If you're thinking of a European vacation with the family, this is a great way to do it and save some money on car rental in the process.

Okay, so ruled out white...now between black and gray. I'll see if they have either one coming in soon. If not, I don't mind waiting a few months to get the build I want. European delivery is probably out of the option for right now, since the kids will be in school during this time. I like the matte, and if one is coming in, I'll seriously consider it. Really the only requirement I have is black interior with carbon fiber trim.
Haven't told the wife
I'll be retiring my 991 Turbo S to get a more family oriented car. Nobody wants to ride in the back and I can't play favorites with the kids...plus this car just looks amazing!

The first step is getting an allocation. Two ways to get one. If you want to go local, you tell the dealer you're interested and they put in a request for a wagon build. Then, depending on the size and sales of the dealership, it can be somewhere between weeks and months just to get a build. Another option is to find a dealer that already has an unspoken for wagon build. They will need to know up front whether you want ceramic brakes because the factory only produces 1-3 wagons with ceramic brakes per week and production is limited so you would need a build with ceramics already spec'd. Once you have an allocation it's usually 3-4 months for spec with all of the options available. Some options will delay a build by weeks or months. Then it's just a matter of waiting.

You can do better negotiating nationally. I got 8% + Fleet.

We didn't spend that much time in Sindelfingen or Stuttgart except for the days of delivery and return so didn't explore broadly but didn't find either city to be any kind of a hole. I travel to Europe frequently for work and have visited many cities, I've never noticed any to be particularly run down. The vacation was an excellent way to share some of my experiences with my family who thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
While I'm sure there are run down places in Europe - just as there are many - many in the US, we weren't working to avoid any particular spots and never stumbled upon any hole-ish cities during our trip - and we hit six countries during the visit. Likewise we weren't bothered by anyone, migrant or otherwise.
They're beautiful countries with tons of history.
Sure you might not like their politics but come on, get a grip and don't be such an a##hole.

Just talked with local dealer...going in on Friday to do a build. Said they could get the build in now and it's about 90 - 120 days to have the car here. I'm hoping he's right
He said he could have one shipped from another dealership in the US, but the only one with a CF package was a white one. He also said he'd give me a discount, on the phone I said 5% and he said he can do that. I'll let you know how it plays out.

I'd ask if they have a build or if he's just assuming how long it will take to get an allocation. I say that because my preferred dealer waited for 60+ days for an allocation and never got one and I had to find a dealer with a standing ceramic allocation. And even then it was 6 months before I got it. I think they finally got a wagon allocation 45 days after I had put a deposit down with the other dealer.

I guess it will work out in his favor. They are the newest dealer around, apparently they don’t get the allocations the established delears do. I figure gotta move them to get the allocations, so he may get an extra next year? Not sure if that’s how it works.

sjb - most likely you’re referring to my post and, after giving it some thought, I think you’re right. In the spirit of learning and helping each other on this forum, I realize that my angry, sarcastic answer doesn’t really help anybody. So, please accept my appologies. However, personally and subjectively I stand behind everything I said because of my own personal experience with this car. I do accept your disagreement with me and I hope that your car stays mechanically sound as I don’t wish anybody to go through the avalanche of mishaps that I had to go through. Enjoy your AMG!
