I did the black if its any consolation 8-D

If you like matte black, this would be an excellent choice to take the car in the obsidian black and get it wrapped in Xpel Stealth. As others have said, you don't have to worry about scuffing the finish because you can just have that panel re-wrapped. It would be my preferred way to go so if it were me in your position, I would consider this ideal! I think it would look amazing!

I still don't see how the salesman can just abruptly make a change like that and get away with it, especially if you don't want that color! Yes, good idea's about wraps, but wait.......what about the giant customer service problem?
GL OP.

Das Geld 2 08-30-2018 04:04 PM

Matte is the ugliest **** you can do. You get a nice shiny car and make it DULL like an UGLY b

See, this is my issue. While I am kicking myself for even asking the question, it was ONLY a question! I didn’t actually ask him to change it and the response so far had been abysmal.

In many respects it is mate, I actually like the Black, hence why I asked the question. It’s more down to the fact what the dealer did.

I did want the Grey Magno a bit more but it was a close call. The perfect colour for me, ironically was the Matt black!

Reminds me of something that would happen to Larry David on his show Curb your Enthusiasm here in the states. But yes, try to at least work out a great discount for the BS you've endured. Does the chap not think he's in the wrong?? Who would do something like that? lol

Have you actually seen a magno finished car in person? They are anything but dull.

The grey magno finish actually has quite a bit of sparkle to it. It's just not glossy, more of a satin finish than a true matte. The Edition 1 cars likewise have some very nice elements to the finish that pop.

The nice thing about the grey magno is that it can actually have a fair coating of dust on it and still look quite nice. Due to vacation and workload I actually went three weeks without washing the car recently and it still looked quite good. Washed it and presto, all the sparkly bits popped again :)

I understand why folks think a leased car has to be restored to its stock form when returned but it simply isn't true. If the dealer you're returning it to wants it restored, then it's true. If they think it's more valuable as-is, then it's not true. My point is, the leasing (rather, financing) company doesn't give a $h!t as long as they get their money--they rarely, if ever, see the vehicle.

bobblehead 08-30-2018 09:20 PM

Those color wrap film does wear out over time, it has a shorter life expectancy than the traditional ppf. I have seen those worn wrap on the car and they looked very crappy. If you are to return the leased car in such condition, don’t you think the leasing company will take them off and do a chargeback on you.

Some really good advice here and I do appreciate that it may have been pure luck/ bad luck but this hasn’t been communicated to me.

Honestly, everything I’ve said has been accurate, my mistake has been to get totally OCD on this car which is totally out of character and I’m virtually b*tch slapping myself in the face!!

I’ll see how it goes tomorrow, I just can’t work out whether it’s worth waiting till Jan or keeping the Black and maybe trying to get some discount on a wrap.

You sir, a fellow limey I might add, are the unluckiest SOB when it comes to cars... jeez, dude--karma simply hates you! :rolf:

Sarcasm aside: sorry, dude, that sucks! So being serious for a second: in your shoes, I'd go back into the dealer on a day when I know my *salesman* (used loosely) is there, ask for the manager and tell them that their dealership just lost the sale on a brand-new AMG E63S. Presumably, they'll ask why--point at the arsewipe with your middle finger and then ask for the cancellation paperwork.

Presumably, you're still mobile--get an M5 CP and tell us what you think! :word:

PS: that's not say the E63S isn't as good as the M5--I don't actually know. I do know my E63S is absolutely phenomenal--again, what a phenomenal car. I'm looking to switch because I'm curious--you should because, apparently, the universe is telling you to.

So wraps look crappy at lease end. No way! If that's true, it totally supports your case... hehehe, I'm being facetious. I've seen wraps and they look great but, granted, I've yet to ask someone if their wrap is over 3 years old so I don't know how they look after some time. Anyway, my point was, you implied that modifications period *must* be removed and that's not true. If the mods make the car look $h!te, then, of course, you either remove it or they'll charge you--that's absolutely no different to a scratched wheel. But mods don't *need* to be removed at lease-return solely because it's a lease--it's the dealership's subjective decision.

It feels that way Limey, I think the universe is indeed telling me something here!!!

I’m playing hard ball today. I’m the first guy who will hold his hands up and say he got it wrong but I’ve gone over the email I sent and the conversation I had and at no point did I say I wanted to change colour, I only asked whether it was possible.

The dealer has screwed up here and if I give him the benefit of the doubt, it’s an honest mistake, but a mistake regardless on their part and they need to do something about it.

Slugsy 08-31-2018 05:29 AM

Well interesting first response from the dealer this morning:

I paraphrase:

I’m afraid there is nothing we can do about your order, take it, order a new one or cancel altogether and if you don’t like it, here is our CEO’s email address!!

Coming from BMW the customer service has been in stark contrast to say the least!!

bobblehead 08-31-2018 07:04 AM

.... I guess M5 Competition order is going in :zoom:

Bollocks mate, I'd surely be sending an email to the "CEO".

Good luck!

Slugsy 08-31-2018 10:18 AM

So, looks like my build slot in September is the last slot for a HUD till January! Honestly, I’m perplexed by Mercedes and their ordering/inventory system!

Dealership have no issue me getting an Xpel Stealth wrap on the Black Obsidian. I’ve asked if they will contribute given the hassle they have caused me and they are putty mg that request up the chain. They are also still trying to unlock the original order but the way they describe it, it’s like a full on global treaty negotiation!

Vic55 08-31-2018 10:34 AM

Slug, there is nothing on the ground that appeals? BMW or Benz?? I know custom orders are just that; custom for you, but if pricing is a key and there is a car on the ground Im sure you can obtain a smoking deal.

Ya, if it's a sedan thats the route I'd go for sure.

I’ve asked the question, I’m not getting great feedback from this dealership. I’m giving them till Monday before talking to others and BMW.

Slugsy 08-31-2018 11:10 AM

If I could get the dealership to contribute to the wrap on the Black then it would be a win-win. Not sure I can justify £3k for a 3 year lease though without some contribution. I could do it but it would stick in my throat.

Sounds like the salesman is gonna stick by that you are confused and can't make up your mind and that you specifically told him to change the color and then wanted to change it back again right away. The Boss man is probably gonna believe him over you so I dunno maybe you just ought to walk away from the deal and deal with a different dealer because for the rest of your life that dealer the word is gonna be that you are wishy washy at least according to the salesman.

Yep, I think that’s right. Interesting I asked him for more detail on how the order became locked so quickly and he hasn’t come back to me so I do smell some BS.

I’m giving him till Mon to come up with something and if not, I’m cancelling and going elsewhere.
