so I just got back from an AMG track day....the difference in performance having the ESP completely off and on Sport + isn’t worth it. Unless you are on a track and had plenty of time to practice there....you aren’t able to go faster or actually have more fun. I would have thought differently but the 4matic+ is really a superb system and the best out of all of the cars that I drove. When I did the AMG track day in 2014, they said anyone who even touched the ESP button in the SLS would be kicked out for the remainder of the day. That safety feature cannot be understated as critical in a 600+ hp car. Sport+ is even a bit much on public roads, but at least it ropes us back in. Chris Harris does the best job in explaining and demonstrating IMO: Better luck with the new car (and yes, the paint is great; I'm glad I passed on the regular and went with mango). |
wow! glad you are OK and no one else was injured.
Hopefully you can salvage most of the aftermarket stuff, or at the very least insurance will reimburse on agreed value! |
the eagle has landed... i picked her up at the dealership on thursday morning...
(sorry for the vertical video) ... and after a spirited maiden voyage up a completely empty (with the exception of the usual assortment of goods at Newcomb's Ranch) Angeles Crest highway on Friday morning: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...62c4a123_b.jpg ... i drove straight to BenzWorks and dropped her off, where she will get some old and new things (re)installed, i.e.
i had to head out of town again for work/much needed vacation, but am looking forward to picking her up in two weeks when i return, and doing my first LA -> SF -> LA run, which i drive a lot for work. for now, here she is at the shop... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ab243ae1_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7b6f7485_b.jpg |
Wow S, somehow I missed this whole thing and never realized Stationdragon was KIA. Glad you’re ok. It truly is a testament to the engineering of these vehicles how much beating they can take and yet protect the passengers. Makes me feel good about having my little guy in the back. And yes good insurance is a must with these toys. In fact I’m in the process of switching over my policy to another company that has a new car replacement policy for the E63.
New wagon looks awesome. I love the matte gray. Enjoy in good health my friend. |
We should work on a So Cal E63S meet-up one of these days.

thanks Dunga. :y

Cool, I'm in out of the country in Geneva at the moment myself, but back next week.
|
Glad to see you made yourself while so quickly. Looks great. Just as an FYI your aesthetic mods and pictures was one of the things that put me over the edge to finally secure a build a lot.

here are a couple more... back together and getting some final cosmetic and mechanical updates. tint, XPEL, and remaining chrome delete (rear deck lid brow and door handles) are next. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d3d75a71_b.jpg paint vs. wrap or plastidip on the emblem, so no peeling issues etc. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b61b86d5_b.jpg and some more goodies waiting to be installed... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...81554474_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4f587fcc_b.jpg |
a couple of weeks have passed, and i finally have it back. the only other change or modification i made was to order the 5-spoke OEM black accent wheels, which are now on the car... so it's very close to the way v1 looked, which is perfect for me. while i do like the black cross-spoke wheels, i see them on literally every E63 now, and also across platforms, i.e. GT63, CLS, even CLA. i also think that the 5-spokes work better with the overall lines of the wagon, and i like the way the black accents compliment the other aesthetic modifications i made.
here's how it sits now... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...352d188a_b.jpg[/url] https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...30e46537_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...38d3a2e8_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a59d1bc0_b.jpg |
Yeah we gotta meet up and get some pictures together and maybe do a side by side pull so I can convince myself I need more power...:zoom:
PS: you are gonna want some front mud flaps before winter eats up your rocker panels .. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...76a3030bf0.jpg |

Well that's that, ya got every damn angle of the car covered perfectly so there's no need to post any more pictures of my car...
I'm glad I just got some new wheels to set us apart .. :slap: |
Car looks absolutely awesome!
Do you have to drop transmission to install downpipes ? Which brad pipes are you running now? |

Installed the European "non-S" exhaust tips today, which I had shipped to my parents' house in Munich, and then smuggled back in my suitcase. :D
Thank you E63S.Muc for the inspiration... such a great upgrade. I love the way it turned out. Looks a lot more aggressive, and how the "S" version should come from the factory (vs. the other way around) in my opinion. Photos below. Also recently got a new plate... bonus points to anyone who can figure out what it means.
