Comfort/Noise Level of E Wagon versus E63 AMG Wagon

I am torn between the E Wagon and the E63 AMG Wagon. Although I love a great sounding car I also want to be able to cruise along on the highway at a very comfortable noise level. In all the videos I find online the AMG is popping and super loud. Can it be almost as quiet and comfortable as the regular E Wagon if needed? The new 2020 model comes standard with the AMG Performance Exhaust. How will that affect the noise level?

Cheers,
Dieter

Ditto. Throw in the family and cruise around in a relatively quiet (not Camry quiet/boring but the exhaust becomes a minor background noise) and rides not unlike any BMW with a sport package. You can converse at a normal adult level and talk/hear with relative ease on the Bluetooth phone interface. Race around in Sport+ mode and you get >100 millisecond shifts and all the childish pops and gurgles that will put a grin on your face ear-to-ear.

Note: I have the Performance exhaust and have read that the normal exhaust is louder than the sport in quiet mode but quieter than the sport in sport mode.

Sound you’ll be fine, comfort is another story. If the wagon is just like the sedan, the AMG is pretty harsh compared to the standard.

I think it’s quiet in comfort. I have a small child and he sleeps fine in the back. It’s a lot quieter than my GLE63s inside the cabin. Comfort wise, it will never be as comfortable as the non AMG car. It ride a little rough even in the cushy setting. Where are you from and where will you drive it? That’ll affect the comfort aspect quite a bit. I drive it on awful roads but have come to terms with the ride thing. My GLE63s rides a lot better, but also wallows in the corners so you can’t have it all I guess.

Put in comfort mode and it's very quiet. The biggest noise comes from the tires. But it only really annoys above 140kmh.
