Traffic Sign Assist not working - UK import to NZ

I have imported a UK W213 wagon to New Zealand. (NZ never brought in the wagon officially.)

The car supports Traffic Sign Assist and the options are all active. However, it shows up on the dash and HUD if I select that option as a blank red circle instead of the red circle and the speed limit. I have driven NZ model cars where the system works - so it is supported in NZ. Our traffic signs are the same/similar to UK/Europe street signs (red circle, etc.).

I have seen conflicting information about whether the system uses the cameras and then the nav maps (or whether the maps are only needed where there are different types of traffic signs, e.g. in the US). In any event, I have upgraded the nav maps to NZ versions.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Have the same problem with a recent UK import - did you find a solution? Thanks!

As far as I know to make all these systems work properly, the car's region has to be set to the correct region, but that requires factory tools and software, and as far as I know only the official importer at the respective vehicle processing center has access to that. We have a similar issue here in the USA with Canadian imports, and as far as I know nobody has been able to set the region correctly on them. Dealerships can't do it. So those Canadian imports for example show Celsius for all the temperatures instead of Fahrenheit. The assist systems are working, though, I believe to support traveling across the border. The only thing the user can change are the distance units from kph to mph and vice versa, but other region settings can't be changed.

My own US spec 2019 C63S (same electrical architecture as the W213) went through a region change, but via the official channels. I did European Delivery, taking delivery of the car in Germany. The factory programmed everything for the EU region including the navigation maps, so traffic sign assist etc. was all working properly. Once the car arrived at the US VPC it was reprogrammed for the US region and the NAR maps were loaded on it. While in Europe, it was sort of in a hybrid region configuration, though. It was probably a special region for ED cars. It showed temperatures in Fahrenheit and pressures in psi, but all the driver assistance systems and the navigation was programmed for Europe, with the exception of the Mercedes me services not having been activated. Those only got activated once the car arrived at my US dealership.
