Ready Light on Display

I am sure this is a silly question, but what is the purpose of the green READY light on the display? Thanks.

If the ready icon shows up, it means that when you come to a full stop, the engine will shut off to save some fuel.

I pressed the button that turns off the engine stop feature, but the Ready light stays on.

I don't see that indicator in the Progressive gauge display mode - at least no that I've ever noticed.

I have noticed though that the auto stop-start feature on my car does not work most of the time. This is because my drives are typically ~4 miles to work and back each day. The battery apparently does not get enough of a charge to feel it's ready for the extra stop/start draw. That and I don't think the engine is warmed to the point where it's ready to enable the mode.

If I put the car on a trickle charger over night or go for a longer drive as I did this weekend, then the stop/start functionality starts working again. But as noted above, still haven't observed that indicator in the Progressive display mode.

I have the similar driving pattern and want to warn you: first indication of battery going low is inability to perform auto start stop - you are correct on that one.
Next car will randomly flash 'driving aid not available' and slow down abruptly. Don't get to that point as I did. I went to dealer and told them to replace the battery because car should perform to technical specs and after some arguments they did it.

Probably I will have to do it again in a year but it's ok with me.

I think I’ll bring it up when I take the car in for its next annual service.

Might be best off with that kind of driving just leaving the car on a battery maintainer when at home. You could wire the plug to the battery below the front grill or something like that so you don't even have to lift the hood when you hook it up. The battery will last a lot longer this way, otherwise you will find yourself having to put in a new battery every 2 to 3 years. I do this with my convertible as it tends to sit a lot in the garage and I'll get a message of battery critically low on my cell phone after 5 days or so of sitting without the battery maintainer, these cars really suck up a lot of juice from the battery just sitting there, not quite as much if left locked though.

I’ve got a very short commute, and this used to reek havoc on my bikes’ batteries as well.

Right now I run a trickle charger to the cigarette lighter in my 911 once or twice a month overnight...easy as anything...no need to run a lead.

That ready indicator just tells you the car is on. It’s there because I’m the 53 the engine shuts down so much and for long periods of time you might not realize the car is actually on and leave it “running” after you park.

Regardless, the car shuts itself down after a while if you leave the car still on as a safety feature so you don’t carbon monoxide poison yourself in an enclosed space such as a garage. I think it uses driver seat weight to determine this. The 53’s can shut down the engine for long periods of time at a stop (around 10 mins) because it has the big 48V battery to run all the accessories including AC.

This makes perfect sense. I have already gotten out of the car only to realize it is not 100% off when the doors won't lock. I'll have to look for the ready light (or lack thereof) in the future.

I’ve also done this a bunch of times myself. I found out about the auto shut off running in my house to get something, came out 10m later and had to restart the car.
