VPC delivery delay
So I ordered a 2020 e63s wagon and it is now at the Brunswick vpc since aug 22. My dealer and salesman have been great. He reached out today to inquire why it is taking so long. He was told there was no agreed release date yet but that the 2020 e63s was expected to be released mid q4. Does this mean I’m waiting till November on my car that has been at the vpc since August?

reason for delay could be EPA certificate if 2020 engine/emissions differ from 2019 model. Few years back when the new engine was introduced cars spent months at VPC waiting for approval....
if not this, then the other reason could be repairs —-> minor damage can happen in the transport.
hope this helps....

My MY 2019 spent about one week at the Long Beach VPC which is consistent with my other orders.

That is my understanding as well, and why I asked Schnell when his car showed up at VPC for its short stay.
I am highly motivated to buy into the story that all cars get held up until they are released in Q4, and so cars that show up late Q3/early Q4 (hopefully like mine) will only be there for a short time.

Thanks for the response. I have been reading the forums a lot and it seems the 2018's experienced many delays. I am new to Mercedes but have always wanted a fast wagon so obviously I am very excited. Apparently this will be one of the first 2020s in the US, my build date was July 17. Anyway, I appreciate any feedback or guidance. Right now I am just trying to settle in for the long wait.
I know how it feels, as I went through 3-month ordeal in spite of short time at VPC:
dropped off in Germany on June 5, picked up two days ago on September 11.
My dealer was able to track VPC progress, sample screen below.
Since you have relationship with your dealer won’t hurt to ask for progress report!
Hope we you will get the good news soon.

Many thanks for the welcome. Once it arrives I will definitely post pics. I have a road trip to see family for thanksgiving so hoping it arrives before then so I can break it in properly.

I have similar screenshots for mine and the latest screen says D10 - VPC RCVD and that was on Aug 22. That’s when my sales guy reached out to the vpc and was told 2020 E63 will be released most likely mid Q4. While I wish it were here at least knowing that keeps me from bugging them everyday thinking it could be here soon.

If you want to review the agonizing wait for the '19s, starting about a year ago, enjoy:

Hopefully it won't be quite as bad this year.

Anyone with a 2020 should expect it to sit at the VPC until Thanksgiving. Not trying to be an downer, just telling the truth. Expecting it any sooner is setting yourself up for months of disappointment. The first year of production, 2018, was delayed slightly due to emissions testing (thank Dieselgate for the certification process getting laborious and backed up, it's smoother now) and didn't go on sale until October 2018. Cars sat at the VPC for 4 months. Then, last year they didn't release them until around the same time because they wanted to give the '18's a full year of being on sale to give dealers a chance to sell through inventory and to keep from hamstringing their 2018 sales numbers. They'll do the same thing this year. It's not due to emissions testing, technical issues, etc. It's entirely market reasons. Better not to get your hopes up.

My 2019 E63S Wagon came into Brunswick GA as well on the 21st of August and I still have no status since then... Hopefully it is not delayed with the release of the 2020 models as we took delivery in Dec of 2018.

It shouldn't, the only reason for a 2019 staying at the VPC more than a day or two at this point is a delay in a VPC installed option like the electrical outlet, fixing some paint or something damaged in transit, weather, etc.

I work at a MB dealer. It is common for MB to hold release until last years models are all gone. Your E63 will wait at the VPC until MB officially launches the 2020 model. Mid 4th quarter is the estimate that I see as well.

@kileeman i know this won’t change anything but why do they do this for wagons? It is my understanding that these are all special order so remaining number of prior year cars has to be low. Figure it would only be the few that people back out of for some reason. I understand dealers to stock the sedans though so that makes more sense.

By the way, this is the page to bookmark and watch. As Mercedes submits models for CARB approval, they show up in the Daimler section.

Thanks for the explanation. While it doesn’t speed things up I enjoy learning about the process.

No reason given for this. Dealer says he doesn’t know why this is.
