So I keep hearing that these wagons lose a ton of value through simple depreciation in the first year or two, and yet people seem to be having a hard time finding them on the used market. Yet Allenjdmb's car referenced above is a 2018 and is listed for $108k (granted it has a lot of upgrades). It all seems contradictory...

The 212s dropped like boat anchors, 213s are faring better. Most of the depreciation talk on E63 wagons is based on the previous gen since there just isn't a lot of data on the 213 yet. I once saw a one year old 212 E63 wagon that was LOADED, CCBs, etc. with a new MSRP close to $130k get listed for $89k CPO. $41k, around 30%, lost in 12 months. Thankfully it's not as bad this body style. Whether to buy new is at least a tougher decision now.

Totally agree. When I was at a dealership two weeks ago, the sales guy looked up E63S wagon inventory and there were only 10 in the entire United States. This might be because it's the end of the model year, and dealerships stopped ordering wagons a few months ago, but the point is that this is a relatively rare vehicle.

That said, my guess is that depreciation will accelerate when the facelifted model comes out in 2021, and then again when the new model comes out in ~2023.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
I think that's pretty accurate....if my car..

was bone stock I would think it would do about 99 retail. At 108, you've got to love the mods--there's about $30k spent there...but if you don't definitely not worth the $$
That being said, I do have all the stock parts if you like the colors, etc.

I went through this BS a few years ago on another car.

First off look at ALL the insurance paperwork and make sure they have the right color and right model. They didn't on mine so I said "You cant even get the car right so I am not accepting your offer" then I provided them with three cars that matched mine and had the prices inline with what I was telling them. In the end they matched my price and didn't total the car

As I’ve gotten older, it’s become CRAZY to me to spend that kind of dough on a new car. $120K!!! My days of $100K cars are long gone. I look back now at all the money I blew over the years on big buck sportscars and I kick myself.

I now truly appreciate and love a good hooptie. I mean, you can get a nice low mile SL600 for $15K.

Don’t spend that kind of money on a new ride brother. Find a nice used one that has already depreciated. Get a nice used S65!
