I suspect I already know the answer (regular elbow grease), but has anyone discovered a product that repels brake dust or at least makes it less of a constant issue? Thanks!!
When I was shopping for a new car I noticed Ceramic brakes listed as an $8,000 option on most buy sheets.
That's for the entire system, carbon ceramic rotors and pads. The 2-piece carbon ceramic rotors are very very expensive.
What is being suggested here is just swap out the factory metallic brake pads for ceramic pads and that will result in less (and lighter in color) brake dust compared to stock metallic pads. The trade off is a little less bite in braking performance.
It might have just been the brand that I purchased for my Jeep, but I was really underwhelmed with the performance of the ceramic pads I put on to replace the worn factory pads.
Really have to stand on the brakes now when you need to whoa down the vehicle in a hurry. But agreed that the dusting problem is not as bad.
On a sports sedan like the E63, I'd have to have a money back guarantee to make the switch so I could make sure the stopping power was still there. That is if I had the steel brakes.
Thankfully I went for the CCBs on my E63 and don't have to worry about dust. That's not why I chose them, but it was an early side benefit I noted when washing the car.
unfortunately, the OEM pads are the best for stopping and feel... but the dust is a fcking bummer.... if I could have done it again.. I would have put the ceramics on. 50% of the pleasure of owning these cars is walking up or looking over your shoulder at your car and the dirty wheels just kills the view.

Yep!!! Worth the $ upgrade for CCB's for me. All my new rides from here on out will have them. No brake dust is so nice!!!
