Trunk Lock Button Issue on 2019 E63S

Hi everyone,

I had a question about my 2019 E63S sedan's trunk lock button. Whenever I push the trunk close button, it works right away and the trunk closes, but for some reason the trunk lock button does not work 100% of the time. Do you have to have the car key nearby it to be able to press the trunk lock button and have it activate? It seems a couple of times the key was close to the button and then it will work but otherwise it will not. Is this by design, am I crazy, or do I have a defective trunk lock button?

Thank you!

Pretty sure the trunk close+lock button only works if you have the key with you to keep you from leaving it in the cabin and locking yourself out.

I have the same issue. Sometimes requires multiple button presses of the lock button to register, so not sure if the signal strength is weak at the rear of the car, but it definitely happens. Never happens if I'm just hitting the button to close it.

Try change out the fob battery and see if the same issue happens again and again

Our 2018 E63S has the same problem. Key fob batteries are good. The dealer service has been through it and finds nothing wrong. Sometimes I can push the close/lock button double digit times with no results. Playing around with it the door lock buttons always work and if I do the kick to close that will close the trunk and lock the car. My conclusion is the red lock button on the trunk lid is bad on ours.
When it goes in for service next I am going to ask how much to replace the buttons. If the cost to me is “reasonable” I will pay to have them do it because I am tired of hearing my wife constantly complain about it.

Smile It's Not The Battery/Key Issue

Just did a simple experiment: left the car key in the house, went to garage and pushed the trunk lock button in the drivers door; trunk opened immediately.
Then pushed and held down button and trunk closed.

Based on this, looks like you guys have a different issue.
Hope this helps....

Sorry, just realized my experiment is not well defined.

Was not the bike, the guinea pig was 2019 E63s.

my '19 E450 wagon had this same issue - or similar at least. I'm not certain which of the two buttons it was TBH, I had just chalked it up to me not being smart enough to know what the other button was really for as they seemed a little redundant anyway. & I'm not sure I myself had even been at the tailgate without the key in my pocket.

I just tried both buttons on my 2020 e63 wagon and they do what they should. I tried with central locking of doors locked & unlocked. All seemed good.

It may be a widespread problem with the earlier ones.

As I posted above our 2018 has had this intermittent issue with the trunk lock button. I determined it had to be a defective button. The dealer agreed to replace it yesterday. Got the car back today. While there the tech experienced the problem but the button was not listed in his procedure as a cause. They replaced the button assembly and after they tested it multiple times it appears to be fixed. It would fail about 25% of the time before the fix.
