AMG E63 Hammer Wagon. Alfa, Rover, Ferrari, Porsche.
This is very helpful, because as one of those guys who always wished the RS6 was available here (esp the V10TT), I’m tempted to wait for it but then I see how much louder the appearance is compared to the E63 and that’s a major consideration for me. My daily shouldn’t scream “fancy” and “expensive,” which the RS6 appears to do quite a bit more than the AMG. I also like the AMG’s interior better and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s faster too, certainly “more fun.” Speaking of, Matt Farrah’s review of the RS6 was a bit vague in it’s resolution, but he seemed lukewarm compared to his review of AMG. 2006 E55 Wagon (RIP), 2019 E63S Wagon (Sold) 2023 AMG GT634S
Initial thoughts -
And overall - the best news is that AoA FINALLY thought it was right to being this car into the states. Wagons are way under represented in the auto world, and perhaps the newer generation isn't as stigmatized about wagons as some of the baby boomers / Gen Xers are, and will be more willing to embrace them again.
- I hate those wheels. Not a fan of directional wheels in general, those in particular.
- It looks higher off the ground, especially in the back with a higher belt line and load floor. (more allroad-ish than wagon)
- The higher belt line leads to less greenhouse / poorer visibility (again - feels more SUV like)
- I suspect the styling will blend better in something other than Arrest me Red (although one of the press cars of the new E63 wagon was red [C&D article, perhaps?] and I LOVED it in that color)
- Benz wins the interior, which is usually a high bar

Meh - RS6 is way over done
Having owned several Audi S cars - I’d never buy another VW (cough Audi). That thing is huge and way too boy-racerish. Give it a couple of years and it will be worth 1/3 of its MSRP.

Many people say the same thing about buying another AMG but to imply AMG is immune to depreciation is absurd. AMG is firmly planted in several spots on that annual top 10 list and quite often takes top honors.

Depreciation
I’m not implying AMGs don’t depreciate. I’m stating that my experience with Audis and depreciation was not good. Wouldn’t go there again - but - that’s just me.

Last year Autotrader listed the E class as #3 worst in depreciation and Road and Track has the MB E class as 8th and the S class as 4th worst. The A3 is the only Audi showing up on either of those lists. You can look up plenty of other lists and MB significantly outnumbers any mention of Audi, and even more so when it comes to the upper class cars discussed here.

2021 AMG GLE 63s Coupe AMG GLC 63s Coupe
2014 Audi R8 v10 bought new $185k...Traded it in 2015 $110k = $75k depreciation in one year...Or how to waste $75k and not even getting laid in the process.
2015 Audi RS7 $127k new traded it in 2016 for $85k = $42k depreciation..
Never believe those that haven't done it in the real world. If you're not gonna keep it, lease it..
Here is the best combo...
My wife's Allroad and my E63s wagon..

That sucks but MBs and BMWs are no different, actually worse by most counts. But please keep on doing that, many us love the 1yr old car deals.

2020 Audi R8 V10, 2016 AMG GTS, 2018 E63S Edition 1, 2018 Porsche GTS Cab, 2012 C63 BS
My chime:
Bought a 2012 R8 V10 in 2013 new for 140k new, sold it a year later for 124k
Bought a 2017 R8 V10 in 2017 new for 165k new, sold it 18 months later for 130k
Bought a new RS7 for 114k in 2014- sold it for for 104k 12 months later.
Its about the starting point with Audi or any brand for that matter, all my deals were triple net of holdback due to factory connects. But yes Audi and Benz/AMG are soft as goose crap. Only my C63BS has been a keeper and even that was soft in the first 12-18 months. I wont even list my quick sale losses on Benz (the worst was a CL65 LOL).

go fast grocery getter wagon
I’m not surprised if that’s true. Just like our w213 wagon in its first year of production, dealers can only get a handful of them.
in Canada, I was told each dealer will get like 10 RS6 Avant per yr at most. They will take your deposit, ranging from $2000 - $5000.

Can anyone confirm what he's saying is true, each dealer getting 2 cars and a 1-year production run for US. The second year is supposed to offer the performance version so maybe they’re trying to prevent guys like me from dumping their place in line for next year.

That’s not what I was told but that was a few months ago when I made the deposit and at that time dealers had very little factual information beyond the car was actually coming. Regardless, that makes zero sense logically....but neither does a lot of the decisions from German automakers.
Is Audi learning from others like the G63 to create artificial demand and increased pricing.

I've called my two nearest dealers and the Audi rep still has zero information to give on this car, ordering, allocations, price etc. In taking your deposit is the dealer just ensuring you get their first car, do they have info on timelines you can share?

My deposit was to assure I have an allocation reserved at my dealership. From what I was recently told they’ve now taken 6 deposits but don’t know how many cars they will actually get.
