Engine temperature

This is my first experience with a Merc but the engine temp seems high compared to other vehicles I've owned. Ranges between 208-212 Fahrenheit... Has anyone experimented with a different thermostat to keep operating temperature a little lower?

These 4.0 liter AMG motors run hot. My '19 S63 is about the same. If I really push it hard it will go above the 212 number but it is normal to see it at atleast 208. I have had the conversation with the dealer techs and they say it is normal. When I picked my car up during European Delivery in Germany, the Center of Excellence delivery person also told me these 4.0 liter AMG motors run hot compared to what my non AMG S class cars have shown for the temp. So I don't think you need to be concerned.

Same here. My curiosity was more based on longevity and a bit of performance. I'm not an engineer but as we know heat destroys engines. Can't understand whyd they run hotter especially being FI with the turbos sitting in the V of the motor

Yeah I see the temp mostly at 212 all the time, I have a 2020 E53 and live in Fl. Seems fairly normal.

They don't call it a Hot Vee for nothing. Thermal dynamics is complicated, luckily MB has it figured out.

Engine that runs hot + sufficient cooling system = You stay right at the vapor temp almost constantly. Completely normal.

I had experience with a few different Hot Vees. The performance can leave you breathless and in need of cooling yourself . . .

AMG E63 Hammer Wagon. Alfa, Rover, Ferrari, Porsche.
200-210°F is not particularly hot. Funny, because I was rather pleased to find the operating range to be so low for a hi-po vehicle. My “pedestrian” 2007 BMW 335’s normal op-temp was 240-250°F in stock, OEM config, and I ran it HARD but reliably for 90k miles tuned to 400whp (470hp). Nothing to worry about...

Too many to list
I guess the old 5.5 biturbo runs a little cooler then. Mine is always around 195-199 regardless how heavy my right foot is.
