E53 Cutting Power!

Hey guys,

My E53 is suddenly cutting power to around 200hp (even though I'm revving up to redline) on straight, dry, smooth roads for no reason and I can't figure it out! This isn't from ESP because the traction light doesn't turn on and this issue persists until the engine is restarted. Does anyone know what's going on? I don't want to take my car to the dealer for now so trying to see if anyone has any ideas. When I floor it and go through the gear, it appears there's 0 boost based on the gauge. But can a turbo really contribute more than 200 hp? I got gapped by a 20 year old Jetta the other day! Lol

Why would you not want to take it do the dealer? It's under warranty, that's why you buy a new car lol

Just trying to avoid going out due to the virus that’s all, kinda curious if this is a known issue and how serious it is to know how soon I should be taking it in; it happens sporadically so it’s not pressing to take it in right away unless it’s a sign of a serious issue

I'd search Google see if anything comes up. I've never heard of this with an E53. I have with the E63s due to exhaust flaps not fully opening. Good luck!

Interesting; that could be the same issue, but do the flaps not opening correlate to the turbo not giving any boost? I’m not very mechanically inclined lol, but I do notice that when this happens there is no popping or crackling in my exhaust whereas there typically is a lot (as long as the weather’s not over 90 I’ve noticed). Maybe the valves are restricting the flow but I don’t know

The no boost issue was because of the exhaust flaps malfunctioning. You'll see the threads, just search the forum.

The valve issue from the E63 was software related. Kinda like a turbo protection power cut. If the valve malfunctions, ECU cuts power via cutting out boost
