E63s Wagon Specs

I bought a CPO 2019 GLE 63s in December and specifically looked for one without running boards. I tried one with them before getting this one and did not like how they got in the way when getting in and out. It turns out that the GLE is a bit tall for me to get in and out of, especially with the bolstered AMG seats. So... I am thinking about a E63s wagon. My two requirements are that the dog kennel I have in the back of the GLE behind the second row seats also fit behind the second row seats of the e wagon. It is a big dog kennel :-).

The second requirement is that I can raise the height enough to get over unpaved roads without worrying too much. I am not going 4 wheeling but I think there are only 4.7 inches of ground clearance though I can not find any specs for the 2020 or 2021 to help me with this. Since they have air matic, I guess I can get an inch or two more which would probably do the trick. Can anyone point me to the a place with useful specs. I found lots when looking for the GLE.

If you need a lower SUV, more space and more headroom for the kennel have you looked at the GLC63 SUV?

I have looked at the GLC and while I like it because it is smaller, it is not big enough to meet my requirement of having the dog crate fit with the 2nd row seats in the upright position as they are in the GLE.

I searched around for the max ground clearance number before buying and didn't find anything. I'd email renntech about the max height for their suspension module, I don't think the default raise suspension setting will make more than 1" of difference.

Cool. I kinda guess you had already checked it out. I believe the GLC cargo area is taller than the E-Class wagon. Little known fact - the GLC is actually built off the E-Class chassis. Many think its based on the C-Class sedan.

I have a 2018 wagon and the trunk sliding cover thing has a mesh net that goes up to the roof and latches on....you may not need to use the actual kennel...your puppers could just chill in the back and with the net up, they cant crawl into the back seats.

Thanks - from other postings, I see the minimum ground clearance is 5". I suspect people are right in that the airmatic rise will not add more than 1". I hope that will be enough.

In terms of unpaved roads, if it is not too bad, 6" clearance should do the trick I hope. I live in New Mexico and there are county roads that are unpaved but I would certainly not go if I did not know the condition.

This comes down to trade offs of space, performance, etc. It is hard to balance this out.

My dog is pretty tall and is 85 pounds so a crate is really needed, especially if I want to park the car and open the tailgate so there is air circulation.

The salesman at our dealership told me about this last year. It will be a very expensive car and not available (as far as I know) in an AMG form. An AMG version of that is definitely something I would wait for :-)

Thanks for all the replies. I just got back from the dealer. While my car was in service, I tried my crate in an E-wagon, GLC, and GLB. As before it fit in the GLC in the long direction, but left little room. It would not fit in the e-wagon which was a great disappointment. I could the GLB also did not fit well.

The sales person said that the 2021 version of the GLE is on a new chassis, as is the GLS. He said it might be lower. Sure enough the GLS, though a bigger car, was easier to get in and out of. If that is the case, perhaps a 2021 GLS 63s is the way to go.
