Launch Control is VERY picky

My launch control (Race Start) feature seems to be extremely picky for when it will engage. I would say 80% of the time I try it, it says that Race Start is not available. Engine temps are warmed up and at normal operating levels, flat roads, wheel straight, set in race mode, all of the things I know to make it work are in order.... Occasionally it will work.

I have been at a stop light, engaged race start to see if it would let me and been successful, then let off the throttle to wait for the green light. When the light turns green moments later I try again and it will not engage.

Is this normal? It is very frustrating!

Mine has always worked. My guess is that you guys are not pressing the brake firm enough. Press the brake through the floor and report back.

I’m with apsuard. Press the brake pedal really hard.

Is there a break in period on a new E63S before race start can be used? I only have 300 miles on my car and haven't tried it yet.

Have you checked the manual? On the 2021 cars, it’s 1,000 miles before it should be used (per the recently-released owner’s manual), but there’s no mention of whether it will engage earlier in its life. Regardless, it doesn’t seem wise to attempt it beforehand.

Never had any issues with mine, always works. Brake pedal needs to be slammed to the floor to activate it.

Might have been a software glitch. Once the brake pedal was mentioned, I was CERTAIN that must have been it... user error.

I went out and put the brake to the floor multiple times. Same problem. I had only tried launching in race mode. Then tried in Sport+ and it worked. Went back to race mode, worked. Has been working reliably ever since.

I bet it was more my fault than the car. Glad its worked itself out. Now I can't stop launching.

Mine is a 2019. I daily it and have already put 23k miles. Waited until 2k for the break in period before I began driving it in Race mode 24/7 for which I basically floor it every chance I get. I have only tried Launch control 5x on one day, and never after that. How often would you guys say I can use Launch Control? I'm hesitant to really use it because I push the car as is.

Also Accelerator to the floor... If it's not all the way down, you won't engage either. Brake and accelerator have to be firmly down. I used to have problems, but after that 100% success with launches. Good luck!

What is everyone's opinion on this? I feel like I'm abusing the car by smashing both pedals at once.

It's drive by wire so it will only allow you to abuse it as much as it is programmed to.

As the OP I feel like I should chime back in. After owning the car for a year, my issues were user error. After learning the car, Launch Control works when and how its supposed to. Temps must be up, proper pressure on pedals etc. Best vehicle ever made.

Thanks for coming back around. I guess I'm also in the same boat that you were in (new owner, sometimes working, sometimes not). Is it really as simple as everyone says? Just mash the brake then mash the gas? (With temps at right level)

Temps at the right temperature is the key I was missing before.

Race start at the traffic light may get you a ticket. Are you folks aware of the possible consequences?

Mine become far more picky when the clutch was getting worn in the GLA A45 AMG, my GLC63s with 80,000ks is still ok yet I almost never use it. Too worried about having to replace that gearboxes clutch pack due to what it is.

Okay quick question on the tttopic, My buddy has an Audi RS7 and it is now tuned. Not sure brand tune but my buddy said the tuner guy told him Audi are set from factory with 100 launches programed and after that will not work. He reset counter to 0. My question is does 2020 E 63s have a launch counter and a launch Max. limit?
