Is there a way to turn off auto start/stop but keep the cylinder deactivation function? Would prefer to keep that but turn off auto start/stop.

Cylinder deactivation still works when auto start/stop is manually turned off on my cars in comfort mode. I've never seen glide mode, however, as I think it requires auto start/stop to be enabled.

Glide mode seems elusive in my 2018. Generally I'm driving in comfort mode when on the Interstate, but my start-up procedure is to put the Exhaust into Sport+ mode and turn off the Auto start/stop. I'm pretty sure I've seen the sailboat come on when driving in Comfort mode on the highway with the Auto start/stop feature turned off. Usually when I see the sailboat it is when I lift quickly from the gas peddle and typically down hill.

Will do some testing maybe this weekend to confirm whether the Auto start/stop has any impact on the glide mode, but I don't think it does in the 2018. It's just a bit tricky to get it to come on reliably.

I'm pretty sure both 4cyl and glide are part of the eco mode (start/stop), at least on 2018 US models.
I found glide works pretty reliably. At ~60mph or faster start to accelerate, then let off the gas completely. I've never tried it accelerating hard, just a noticeable acceleration.

From the 2023 manual:

Glide mode will be activated if the following conditions are met:

- The ECO start/stop function is switched on.
- Drive program is selected with the drive setting "Moderate" or "Reduced".
- The speed is within a suitable range.
- The road's course is suitable, e.g. no steep uphill or downhill gradients or tight bends.

On most years, Glide is enabled only in I mode, where I has been configured to be a clone of C. It's in my (2019) manual, and it works. Make I a copy of C, put it in I and you'll see the sailboat.

Just completed a 1000+ mile round trip to NorCal and experimented with the (A) button. Confirmed that Glide and cylinder deactivation only came on when the (A) button was illuminated. As I was rarely stopped the auto stop start feature wasn't that annoying during the trip. That said, I didn't notice a marked change in my milage with the feature enabled. Was in the 22 to 23 MPG range for the trip which isn't that dissimilar to my typical highway mileage.

I got glide mode working on my GLE63, Individual mode with auto start/stop enabled. Engine shuts off completely and turns on again pretty fast and seamlessly with the 48V system and ISG. Haven’t tried it yet on the E63, but seems like it just disconnects the transmission and doesn’t shut off engine.

One thing to get rid of the pre crash braking alert system is to not wear the seatbelt. Not that I condone that of course..
