2020 E63s

Hello all, I've been lurking here for ~18 months learning a lot about AMG cars as my current car is my first merc. I finally registered an account yesterday in order to hear opinions from everyone. I bought my first AMG back in October which was a 2018 designo selenite grey magno with 8,000 miles and loaded up with about every option including CCBs. I bought it from a MB dealership (will remain unnamed) as a pristine car previously owned by one of the AMG instructors and never on the track. In hindsight I should have had the car inspected, but with it coming from a dealership with plenty of warranty remaining, I didn't. The car was in terrible shape when I received it. Scuffs and scratches on every corner, and the front of the car looked like it had been following a dump truck spilling sand out the back for all 8,000 miles. It was ridiculous how rough the car was including the intercooler fins being all laid over from road (likely track) debris. I made them take the car back. The reason I'm leaving this dealership unnamed is they tried to make this right by dealer trading for a car with the options I wanted and giving me a reasonable deal on a new car. That's how I ended up with a new 2020 E63s.

My current car has 3,200 miles. It shipped new from the dealership to a friend who does wraps, and the entire car was covered in Xpel Stealth. I also had the windows tinted, and the grille, door handles, and trunk lid chrome were wrapped. I ordered new badges from MB, and he had those painted black by a paint shop. In addition he ordered me a Renntech tune which I installed at 1,500 miles. I went by the book on driving for the first 1,000 miles. One would think I would have realized this before I bought this car, but I have now realized I need a truck. Some of this is due to a change of circumstances so I shouldn't be too hard on myself, and this car is too expensive to keep as a second vehicle. My question for you all, is how much of a bath should I expect to take on this car? MSRP was $128,065 plus $10,000 worth of add-ons plus 6.5% sales tax. Not losing money is out of the question, as it always is on these types of cars, but how much should I legitimately expect to get back on what I've spent? Thanks for any and all opinions.

Probably around $105-110K. Facelift is out.

Beautiful car, I think you messaged me about this but I had just picked up my new baby. I don't think you'll have a problem moving this, but you're definitely going to lose some money as you bought new and you're selling at the worst possible point in the depreciation curve.

I did, but I couldn't find the outbox/inbox portion of the forum. I wasn't sure the message sent.

You can pick up a new RAM for deals. Or lease a Tacoma.

The truck lease will probably be about the same as the bath you'll take dumping the E63s right after purchase given the timing of the new models and so on.

So +1 on keeping the Merc and leasing a beater truck.

Any aftermarket ”upgrades” rarely add much value during resale (some things can cause a reduction in value) so you can expect to loose the majority of that expense. I think you may take about a $25k-$35k hit.

So, add me to the “lease a beater truck” recommendation list

Short version is you will lose the value of the "extras" and take a value hit as noted above. The used car market is extremely strong right now given limited new car production so if this had to happen you've chose a good time. Sell yourself for $105-109k, subtract about 10-15% if you trade to a dealer.

Would have NEVER guessed what the next 12 months would hold when I made this post last year. I'm guessing the car is worth more now at 12,000 miles and 1 year later than it was when I originally posted. Crazy market out there.

I recently purchased a very similar 2020 E63 same designo Grey mango, similar options, 10K miles no renntech no wrap from a deal in Pittsburgh and paid too much but was what I wanted mostly( would have ceramic brakes if I had the choice) but as new sticker was $126, I paid $118K before tax and transfer for it late Dec. Again know I paid too much but didn't care I wanted it. So just find the right person we are out there.

Thanks for the data point. I think I'll put it up for sale in the next few weeks. Haven't decided for sure.

There's a prescription for regret over how much you paid. Go for a drive and floor it.

I’m going to list the car this week. 13k miles. To the forum braintrust, what price should I ask?
