Unfortunately, my new (to me) 2018 E63s was hit in the parking lot at work. Culprit took off, no note was left, and no cars around it when I left work today. Unfortunately no cameras in the lot, and no dash cam installed yet in the car. Car was purchased about 6 weeks ago.
I attached some pictures of the damages. Wanted to know if going through insurance (USAA) was advisable with this kind of damage, or is it better to just go to a body shop and take care of it myself. The fender damage is one thing, but i was concerned about the headlight as well. Doesn't appear like the interior of the light was damaged, but i am concerned about it being waterproof now.

I believe the whole light assembly will need to be replaced and probably the whole bumper considering the damage. This shouldn't effect your insurance and you're going to want to let them pay for it.
As long as you weren't sitting in your car, you'll just pay your comprehensive deductible. No fault assessed to you. Make the claim, lots of damage there. For reference, I literally had a stone chip on my front fender, whole fender had to be painted $1500.

Hi, When they painted your fender, did they try to get you to pain adjacent panels to "blend"? I know I have to have my fender and front fascia replaced and painted, but they want to paint the hood and driver door to blend it in (seems standard with body shops from what I have read). My problem with this is that paint on paint never seems to have the durability or longevity as the original OEM paint. I can see my hood having more chips over time after painting it than not painting it.
No, they just painted the fender and it matches perfectly. They are an authorized Mercedes paint facility so they meet a minimum standard. I wouldn't have taken it to a non-certified shop. They've done a number of my cars and always perfect so I always go back. Also haven't been able to notice the paint is softer.
Something to consider is if you go through insurance, and depending on the type of work needed to fix it, it could be reported to your insurance as an accident and then it’ll show up on future carfax reports. Something similar happened to me with my M2. I hit a curb and what felt like fairly minor damage resulted in having to replace the entire front bumper and repainting it. The cost was $3k. I went through insurance and now it shows up as an accident despite it being basically a really bad scratch. It’s pretty obnoxious because this obviously impacts the value of the car now.
That's something to consider. However the $5-6k he'd need to spend to avoid a Carfax report probably works out to the loss from a dirty report. Pay now or pay later.
To update everybody it was roughly a $3000 fix They were able to fix the bumper without replacing. They had to replace the headlight housing. I went through insurance, I did not check the Carfax report yet.

I just saw your post, and something similar happened to me, damage wise. I was driving home one night and a RR Evoque lost control and hit these plastic express lane posts we have here on the highways in Miami. A bunch of them shattered and ended up scratching up my hood and front right quarter panel, as well as cracking my right headlamp. I took it to a body shop where I know the owner, and he told me to go through my insurance. It was $2500 of damage. The headlamp alone was around $1500, if I remember correctly.
