hello folks
the facelift e63s rides a lot better than the pre-facelift. accordingly to the media, MB replaced the bushes and calibrated the suspension softare.
is it possible to make these mods in the pre-facelift? for me doesnt make sense upgrade to the new model. i like this shape better than the new one.
please share your comments.

I don't know but I'd love to find out. I know in Europe the software update was available for the suspension. I heard something about the actual shocks being re-valved but I can't find that right now. If it's bushings that wouldn't be incredibly difficult to do.

Yeh I wish I could buy a new one that looks like the old one. The exterior refresh was a failure. Try running a slightly lower air pressure in your tires if your roads aren't too bad. Or try a more compliant tire.

I am hoping the software upgrade that those outside of the north america received will come to us at some point. It may not provide the exact same compliant ride as the facelifted model due to hardware differences, but it should help a little. Otherwise, why would they have offered it elsewhere?

I think the facelift is spectacular. To each his own. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I AGREE! The change of the front grill and its availability in black, reshaping of the headlights, more visually aggressive front bumper all combine to make the vehicle more unified than the previous front-end. Inside, the change to the MBUX computer system is light years ahead of the previous COMMAND system in my 2018 E63S sedan. Additionally, I was able to order the new Graphite Grey paint color instead of the non-metallic black Of course, the change in the suspension calibration in Comfort mode makes the car much more drivable as a DD w/o diminishing the other suspension settings. There are other subtle changes to things like the air conditioning system functions and operation, new display designs, etc that all make this a significant new experience. One thing that I don't like is that the control for the front passenger seat on the driver's side has been eliminated which I used many times in the past. Net, there's a smile on my face every time that I drive my wagon.

The new look, more compliant ride in C, MBUX, are some of the highlights of why I waited forever to get the new facelift 2021, instead of buying a pre-facelift and save thousands. Love it.

I think that the IWC clock was more bling than function. There are certainly enough digital displays with time segments. The sport seat elimination is more of a marketing issue. They are still shown on the MBDE configuration site.

Sport seats

I wanted them badly - not available. After having the massage seats for about 3 months - I’m happy I didn’t get them. The seats are awesome.

The suspension in the FL is more than software and some new bushings. Specifically it uses a newer generation of the dampers that have a wider range of operation. Some of the improvements are purely software, for example they changed how the dynamic engine mounts work. They are now mostly speed based, so the engine is mounted more relaxed at lower speeds to provide more comfort and only tightens up when you drive faster. That could possibly be changed in the PFL with a software update.

As for not offering the performance seats, that's a decision MBUSA made. They are still available in other markets, but MBUSA has decided to no longer offer them in the sedans and SUVs. They are still available in most of the coupes and cabs. The reality is they didn't sell in the sedans and SUVs. Americans are not fit enough for them.

There are settings that I haven't tried as yet with the heated options. Certainly feels like the height of decadence. I tried out the sport seats when I previously configured my 2018 E63S. I found them awkward for entry and exit and they didn't have dynamic active bolsters. No loss in not having the choice in 2021.

I agree with you! I am new to the wagon (LOVE IT) but ended up buying a 2018 model versus a new one.
Wasn't really a budget decision was all to do with the look of the front end.
The prior model just looks more aggressive to me, although having the grill available in black would be nice.
Also liked the old steering wheel better.
I haven't had any issue with the stiff ride - in fact really enjoy it even on bumpy NYC roads.
Only drawback is the creaky dash / center console. It isn't as nailed down as I would expect.
Local dealer has improved it with padding but it still isn't perfect.

The entire design team, including its management, should be fired for placing the front camera off-center. Lol
