Glide mode?
There is supposed to be a "Glide mode" when in the Comfort setting when certain conditions are met. I have over 5600 miles on my 2021 wagon and I've never seen any indication of its presence. On my 2018 E63S, the mode would be activated at times. Has anyone with a 2021 wagon seen this mode work at all?

Is the Glide mode the same as when "V4" symbol comes on the dash?
(We have a '21 wagon, I did the first 1K miles, and now it is my wife's car and has ~1,500 miles and we have seen "V4" many times

Thanks. The Glide mode is described in the AMG supplement. When it is activated the engine is disengaged from the transmission. Not a big deal, but it is a curiosity.

Here's what the '21 AMG supplement has to say about glide mode:
The important parts here are Individual drive program must be selected, and it must be set pretty much the same as the Comfort mode drive program.
What the manual doesn't say is that the car will not enter glide mode if it's already in 4-cylinder mode at the time the above conditions exist. So to get the car to glide, you need to go pretty quickly from accelerating to having your foot off the accelerator. Don't ask me why it works this way, this is just my observation through many hours of highway driving. I have some regular drives with long steep downhills where I "manually" engage glide mode to increase fuel economy. It does work, and my WAG is that it is a little more efficient than 4-cylinder mode.
What this also means is that if you're using cruise control you're very unlikely to see glide mode. Generally speaking, cruise eases off on the gas, the car enters 4-cylinder mode, and then won't glide no matter what happens.
Ivan MacKenzie.

Indeed the I mode is kind of non-logical (you would expect COmfort would to the trick) but ok. Are these the same criteria for getting V4 mode?

Other than this, I can find no discussion of the conditions for four-cylinder mode:
This statement is not 100% accurate, as you can also get four-cylinder mode when using the Individual drive mode (assuming it is defined as per Comfort drive mode...).
In my experience, four-cylinder mode activates when you gradually decrease the throttle, whereas glide mode requires quick throttle decrease.

i used it every day having hilly roads here. When I see little downhill I tap accelerator, immediately release and it Glides!
Must be in C mode and it always shows Glide in V8 mode.

It depends on your year and model. Some 2018 builds, and earlier, E63s will glide in C mode. Later 2018s, and 2019 on on must be in I mode, configured to mirror C mode, to glide. When I got my 2019 there was some discussion here and we figured out they made the change, It's documented in the manual but it is counter-intuitive. The fact that earlier builds ignored what the manual says and glide in C just added to the confusion.
Also, using the adaptive cruise control disables glide for safety. (If someone cuts you off when you're cruising with Distronic, the engineers didn't want extra milliseconds to be spent reengaging the drive train to take evasive action.)

On my 2018 it works on the flat in Comfort if I'm driving along at highway speed then lift off the throttle quickly. If you lift with a gradual motion it is much less likely to engage.
