At $2.4M one would expect it would be quicker.

I spent over an hour in a ludicrous version before I bought my 2021 E63s. That says it all

Still no fan of electric cars but I have to give credit where it's due.
Plaid might as well be from a different planet in any regard when compared to 100D with "Ludicrous" mode.
Handling wise is very talented too and not disadvantaged against M5 or E63 in a significant way, even with the huge weight electric cars usually have to contend with, very low center of gravity shows the benefits of that car.
I just don't know more practical, convenient, easy to live with, daily driver purposed car, with the Bugatti Veyron beating performance as a bonus.
24hr "Sentry" watching over it (so you can see who keyed or hit your car, or provide a video proving your innocence in case of an accident), no need to ever visit a gas station, ability to program specific temperature inside the car via your iphone (handy when all other cars are either Arctic freezer or overheated sauna when sitting at a parking lot at wherever you work), etc, etc...
Not a car for long road trips but for local errands and commuting has no real competition.
Hating it is quite frankly very irrational, I appreciate the fact it is American made and that an unknown start up could single handedly create such a revolution in the car world (in relatively short time) and forced established manufacturers to play catch up (and still being inferior in their attempts).

I'm thinking of buying an Electric for the wife when I move permanently to my Florida home. She just drives around local, I can take it out for some exhilarating driving on occasion, but the main reason is you can run your house off of it for almost a week during a power outage. The ultimate auto appliance!

Great thing, to be able to power your home with an electric car in emergency but Tesla would not do it unfortunately.
The only car I am aware of doing this is the new upcoming Lucid Air.
A much better car then the Tesla in terms of quality of the interior, overall design, luxury and matching Tesla Plaid in performance (almost), in the top model, the Lucid Dream Edition (just over 1000HP).
An even more powerful car from Lucid is coming next year supposedly, with 3 motors and about 1800HP (crazy, crazy power and extremely dangerous in the hands of soccer moms when they deal with PMS or menopause).

Better to install solar and a couple of tesla "powerwall" batteries. House and cars with ample power for several days--weeks even, if you ration properly.

2020 e63s wagon
it boils down to the enjoyment of driving vs a-b functionality. i can't get over the sound of an amg motor in first, second and 3rd gear crackling-snapping and popping and i'm going no more than 50mph. it just doesn't get any better than that.....

Isn't the e63 wagon more or less as quick around the track as the plaid? I remember reading a few years ago it was within 10 seconds or so, not sure if it has improved since then.

(Acknowledge the plaid is much quicker in terms of straight line speed but I'm assuming the E63 wagon has a better chassis.)

I'm actually excited if MB produces a full electric AMG performance wagon.

Just worried they'll take the opportunity to drop the wagon from the line up.

People have been powering their home with Teslas and others for years. Here's a good discussion on the subject.

I'm well aware that it *can* be done. I just think the other route is the more preferable one.

As far as I know, doing so puts the owner at the risk of voiding the Tesla warranty.
Tesla has caught a lot of these people....

Rule # 1 if your going to do something like this don't post it on social media...

I don't own a Tesla but it is tempting to look at it as a backup power source, or any EV for that matter because of the size of the battery compared to the one's they sell for the same purpose..

Our Tesla is our preferred long-distance car. However, all our long driving is restricted to 2-5 hour each way trips. Any more and we fly. I'm not a fan of a 12-24 hour road trip!!! Done those in my earlier youth and done with it.
However, we did drive from Florida (Jacksonville to Houston) last year and split the drive over two days. Stopped to visit daughter in college and went shopping (obviously) and had dinner in Lousiana on the first day.
Cannot say it was any worse than a gasoline car and there was zero range anxiety with as many WOT runs as we could get in on the drive without jail time

Plaid was not an option when I went to drive the Tesla, I did end up buying a Model 3 for the wife though. I however could not get over the sloppy handling feel of the Model S and the lifeless but incredible acceleration.

Did you drive Plaid yet?
Different car then the previous 100D.

Let us not forget that the tesla model S is not the fastest 4 door executive car at the N-ring. The lap record for this was previously held by the GT63s and now held by the Porsche panamera Turbo (7:30 and 7:29 respectively). The plaid doing it at 7:35 is 5-6 seconds slower, which is significant in N-ring lap times. So it is the fastest electric sedan around N-ring, but noticably slower than these 4 door competitors. A great achievement, but significant only when compared to other electric cars.

Both the GT63 and Panamera Turbo are much faster than an E63 though. I think the E63 lap time is around 7:45, so the plaid is still 10 seconds faster. I haven't driven a Plaid, but have driven the P100D and while I didn't like it, it doesn't handle significantly worse than our cars.

the 7:45 is correct for the station wagon. No one from mercedes has taken the sedan for a lap attempt. The 7:45 stands as the fastest station wagon time. I suspect that the sedan will behave similarly to this, though. The GT63 and the panamera have the advantage of rear wheel steering. So although the two cars share an engine, I would think that they handle very different and the sedan E63 time would be closer to the station wagon than the GT63.

U.S., Cannonball Run. I thought that was bested by an Audi during the early days of the CV-19 shutdown?

2018 E63S AMG
It had been previously held by by Ed Bolian (VinWiki) using a CL55 AMG for several years before being broken in 2019 by Arne Toman, Doug Tabbutt, and Berkeley Chadwick in a 2015 E63s AMG.

With the CV-19 curfews in place and limited traffic on the roads it was broken again in quick succession by several teams, the current record again being held by Arne Toman and Doug Tabbutt along with Dunadel Daryoush using an Audi S6. They couldn't use the E63s AMG for the run because it was totaled by a sleepy trucker in 2020:
