Got a letter a couple of days ago from MB USA to bring in my 2021 E63S for the named service bulletin to retrofit the augmented reality camera/dashcam. Looks like they are getting around to giving us our missing pieces. I assume this is different from the Hermes module and is yet to come.

 

I did get the augmented reality but buy no.dashcam. I really want the damn dashcam

 

Not sure if you know, but the built in dash cam doesn’t do anything for me because I heard you had to physically turn of the dash cam at every start up?

 

Yeap. And mine in my GLE only records in a bunch of 1 minute clips til it gets full and then just starts recording over. Not a very good system if you ask me.

 

1 min interval is hard-wired, no way to change it?
selectable camera focal length?
is there a way to label clip as a read only so,it doesn’t get over written?
cheap dash cams offer all of the above, plus gps tracking, taking still pictures and such…

 

I ordered an E53 in October 2021. It was finally accepted by MB and now it has a build date of 2nd week of September (fingers crossed). I wanted to order the dashcam and was told I could not. Mercedes would not accept the order if I included it. They said they'd try to add it to the order once it was accepted. So far, no luck. They also said it was not something you could retrofit.

 

Honestly I haven’t played with the MB dash settings to much. I think I remember a discussion in the V167 thread once that talked about how some recorded in 1 minute intervals but others had longer ones. I do not remember there being to many settings or ways to control the MB installed dash cam. I have tried to go back once and find a wreck that happened in front of me but could never find it so I just gave up on it. It’s not a very easy system from what I’ve found and you do have to manually start it every time. I’ve got it down to 2 buttons but also remember it will not start right after you get in the car. Mine always takes a few minutes to “boot up” and then you can manually start it.
It’s neat to say you have the system on the car but if you really need something good or want a lot of control, skip it and get an aftermarket.
