Having my 20" OEM AMG forged rims powder coated. Would like to machine the lip. Told by the garage that the spokes would stick out about a width of a hair due to sanding down lip. Anyone done this? Is it safe?

 

I had to get my 2019 AMG wagon's "cross-forged, black" rims cleaned up because there was some curb rash on them from the previous owner (not me!).

All the rash is gone and the rims looks new. The shop didn't express any concerns. However, I don't know what tooling was used to remove the rash.

what I mean more is taking my rims (above), powder coating them and then machining the lip like in the black OEM (below). Not sure if it's a good idea or not

 

Are the current wheels damaged at all. If not, maybe someone will trade with you.
