Microphone replacement denied under ELW warranty

Hello,

2017 E43 with 74K KM. I have the extended ELW warranty. Attached warranty doc.

I have been having issues with my Bluetooth and CarPlay phone calls. No one can hear me clearly.

The dealer submitted a warranty claim to replace both microphones. Mercedes is rejecting doing the work claiming that it is not listed on the warranty document.

I contacted Mercedes directly and they said the same thing. Sorry sir the document doesn’t say “microphone” the dealer claims they need to drop the headliner to replace both microphones.

I am really disappointed in the customer service. I tried to state the microphone is part of the Command but they said no. I also added that if my mic’s doesn’t work then the voice commands don’t work.

In this instance I would first ask if the phone is part of the radio or command. If the phone does not work due to a radio issue, it would not be covered. I however think the phone system is part of command and just like a radio may not be covered if not part of command, if the radio is controlled by command, it would be covered. So all of the functions of command should be covered. What was it that shorted out the microphone and what is to say that does not happen again? If command shorted the microphone due to a phone issue, no problem.

Next, do you have voice activation as part of command? or is the voice activation part of the radio? Its part of command so therefore all parts of that system should be covered.

MB can not both include a system and exclude the same system without clear delineation in parts. Microphone was not specifically included or excluded so therefore we can only go off of what system the mic interacts and receives signals from.

So, Gurus, what module does the microphone get direction from? What module activates the mic?

good luck op im sure by now you've read the the mb elw warranty is not the first choice of most.

Thank you for this reply. Exactly my thoughts. You articulated this extremely well.

Technically any microphone is a sound sensor and under covered parts, number 12 sensors are covered.

So, as a sensor, it is always on waiting for a signal. When that voice signal is recognized, what module is activated? Many can be I believe, but the all run through a gateway called …. ?
