To be clear, from what I've learned from AMG and from RJ Automotive, MY18 can't be retrofit for the AMG Drive Unit because the vehicle dynamics module (VDM) doesn't support the programming. The MY19-20 facelifted steering wheel will retrofit to MY18's but that's about it.
Some MY19 can't be retrofit if they are early 19 production because of the older VDM.

Thank you for clarifying this. I really like the look of the newest wheel but I have heard its really thick and doesn't feel right in the hands. plus the air bag doesn't look as nice as the previous model.
I will probably just get the 2019 series wheel. I had that one in my c63 and really liked the look and feel. Do they make drive units' for that wheel?
I don't need the drive unit I just really like the convenience of it.
