Check coolant warning message

Today I received a warning message to check my coolant level. When I looked at the reservoir, the level of the coolant was significantly down from the minimum level. The level came up after I drove the car for a while, but that was obviously normal expansion. The shop foreman at my dealer mixed up a batch of coolant to add to the reservoir which appeared to take somewhat less than a quart to top off the level. There were no leaks discovered upon inspection, but I had noticed that the fill cap was difficult to remove so it might have been installed improperly and leaking from there. Replacing the fill cap was smooth and it clicked into place so it might have been just the cap being installed incorrectly.

Any smells or stains? Most common issue of course is a puncture in one of the radiators up front.

I also filled mine up a few times over the last 4.5 yrs. I think that’s normal too. No difficulty in removing the cap from the coolant reservoir

Nothing that was visible. The level is holding after the replenishment. The shop foreman stated that it is not unusual to have to add a small amount of coolant on these engines.

UPDATE: they found code C151E01 for left front level sensor malfunction. When they raised the truck using the lift the value indicating clearance (i think) didn't change. They had to remove the driver seat to gain access to the adaptive dampening module. They found an open circuit from the connector to the level sensor. The electric pin bushing wasn't locking properly. They replaced the electrical pin bushing and the problem was resolved.

It's still unclear if this was the result of sloppy work from replacing the thermostat. It most likely is but MB service wont admit it is.

I had a low coolant warning this week. Just slightly low when dealer checked. They checked all hoses and did a pressure test and no issues. Must be accurate about these engines needing coolant every so often.
