Cracked Windshield
My wagon has approx. 1800 miles. Was driving home, normal slow traffic and SMACK, out of nowhere, never saw it, but heard it, got a cracked windshield. Couldn’t believe it, but I guess it happens. The car is too new to not replace, but not sure how invasive the surgery would be to replace the windshield. Curious to know what other members have encountered if they have had the same issue. Not what I thought I would be doing so soon. Double UGH !!!!! Thankfully,I avoided a rock to one of the radiators.

I've had two windshields in the car. Factory windshield was chipped on the last day of my European Delivery tour as we were driving from Munich back to Sindelfingen.
The windshield was replaced by the VPC, but when I picked the car up from the dealer on the east coast where I had the car dropped off, I didn't have any Distronic features that use the camera. Either the VPC didn't put in the right windshield or they didn't calibrate the camera correctly. As I was driving the car cross country back to San Diego, I had schedule a stop in Memphis to have the rear diff services. I had then look at the Distronic issue and they tried to recalibrate the car but ended up wiping all the calibrations and then I had no automatic features.
As luck would have it, I was hit by a large rock in just outside Little Rock, AK. Called Mercedes using the button in the car and they were able to find a new windshield at a dealer in Dallas. That worked out OK as I was stopping to visit family in Dallas anyway. The Dallas dealer replaced the windshield and did all the proper calibrations this time and it's been working great ever since.
I had the Windshield protection given that I have HUD, sound reduction, and the thermal options and wanted to make sure the windshield was replaced with factory glass. So used one of those silver bullets.
That said, the dealer said the trick to get your car insurance to replace the windshield with factory glass is to go to the dealer first, and then make the claim from there. Once the repair is in progress they can't strong arm you into using their preferred service and non-factory glass.

Very routine to replace a windshield. Have unfortunately done several of them on multiple cars. It's covered under comprehensive and I have only a $100 deductible for comprehensive. My dealership actually has in-house factory trained glass technicians, so they do everything under one roof. Most dealerships contract out to a glass shop and then take it back for the camera calibration. I would also recommend you push for factory glass, which is pretty much a given with the HUD and the cameras.

Brand new, coming home from picking it up from dealership. Less than miles, POW. I was spouting words I never knew!
FL has no deductible on windshields if you have collision coverage.
Fortunately, there were a few OEM windshields in IL and it's was good as new 2 weeks later.

e63 windshields crack all the time. there is an old thread on this with many people (including me), saying it cracked and nothing likely hit it). i have had a small crack in mine now for 2 years and it has not grown or changed (in upper corner of passenger side).... so i have yet to fix it.
and it depends on your insurance policy and deductibles if they fix it without a large charge.

If it's only a small chip, you can look into getting the windshield repaired. I don't think MB dealers will repair but you can take it to Safelite. If you need to replace and are paying out of pocket, it can get pricy. I'm in the process of replacing the windshield on my 2022 AT at a MB dealer and they are charging $1547 for the windshield plus labor. It's interesting to watch the process as well if you have time. They lift the entire windshield out leaving a gaping hole in your car and glue the new windshield in place.
