E63s launch control

I recently got a 2020 e63s. I wanted to try the launch control so found an empty stretch, hard pressed the brake pedal and gas pedals together...rev meter flashed, I let go of the brake pedal and........jerking stutter and no get up and go...had to let go of the gas pedal completely and then press it all the way again for the car to go......so basically it wasn't a launch control...more like me just flooring the gas pedal from standstill like one would from a red light.

What went wrong? Have tried 3 times and still not an instant 'launch'...but rather a hiccup and me having to press the gas again.... Anyone else had this experience? Am I doing something wrong?

The steps and conditions that have to be met are all in the owner's manual. You are not providing any details as to what driving mode you used and what mode you put ESP in. Ultimately lunch control is still subject to available traction, so if you didn't turn off ESP or at least put it in ESP Sport, then it could be as simple as traction control putting a stop to it, because all the wheels just slipped. If RACE START activates properly it will say so in the instrument cluster, otherwise you'll get a message saying RACE START not possible if the conditions are not fulfilled. As said read the owner's manual. It's all there and follow the proper steps. If it still doesn't work you need to provide details about the drive mode, ESP and what it said in the instrument cluster.

All attempts were in RACE mode as instructed. Which turns of ESP automatically I believe.
I will go thru the manual as well but wanted real world experiences of forum members too.

How I do it.

Put the car in Race or Sport+ mode (BTW, Race mode does not disable ESP, it just puts it in less of a nanny mode.)

At the desired starting point, with the car stopped, press very firmly on the brake peddle, then floor the gas peddle and wait for the revs to build and for the car to go to Race Start mode. Typically I'm not looking at the dash but identify the successful application of Race Start by the revs bouncing around some set point.

While holding gas peddle to the floor, briskly release brake peddle. Enjoy an exciting departure from my previously stationary position . . .

Ok thanks. So if race mode doesn't turn off esp, do you manually turn it off before trying the LC? or you just use whatever race mode presets it as?

As said above, RACE mode doesn't turn off ESP. It just has higher thresholds for drift angles, but traction control is still fully active. You have to activate ESP Sport or ESP Off on top of RACE mode. It also doesn't have to be RACE mode, S and S+ works as well.

I have done launch in every mode including comfort. Only thing that matters from my experience is making sure traction control COMPLETELY off (hold down traction control button for 10 seconds or whatever it is). Happy launching 😝

With the E63 that's probably the best approach due to AWD and the old school brute force traction control, but traction control can potentially yield faster launches. Particularly in cars such as my '19 C63S, GT R and above with 9-stage adjustable traction control. One can dial in the desired wheel slip for maximum traction and actually improve launch times. The E63 doesn't have this level of adjustability, so you only have ON, SPORT or OFF.

Do you get better 1/4 miles with traction control off? Anyone tested both times on and off ESP on launch mode?

Also are you just doing brake boost on comfort, S, and S+? But we should get the best time slots with launch control mode..no?
