New E-Class interior . . .

Everyday I look at the gauges in my '19 and wish I still had the same ones I had in my '16 which is one element I miss a great deal (besides the shift knob in center console, I do not like the steering column shifter)! And now this . . . I'll give it some time to see if it grows on me but I seriously doubt that'll ever happen . . .

Yikes. Touch screen for virtually everything ... that's not good, IMO.

Not surprising since that's already the way of the C, S, EQS, EQE class.

No idea why any passenger would ever need or use the dashboard touchscreen rather than their fast, latest and greatest, personalized, app store capable cell phone.

As these screens take over more and more space, a Mercedes has less opportunity to be remarkable on the interior. I am not sure where they will be able to regain some of that swagger, but it's obvious they aren't going to do it with those door cards.

Looks like MB's design language moving forward is ambient lights more lights and screens more screens, plastic more plastic, capacitive touch more capactive touch and glare more glare. Hopefully I am wrong, that will make me happy again.

Only saving grace seems to be the wood... hopefully W223 facelift gets it.

But it has TikTok integration and a selfie camera. Everybody can now be an influencer in their shiny new E Class....LOL! When did cars stop being cars?

Man, I’m the complete opposite…I darn near love just about everything about the interior of the W213 E63. The shifter is perfect!! Super easy to use, and no clutter on the center console. The gauges and infotainment setup was done so good, yet still integrated into the dash unlike a lot of newer cars. I had a 2014 E63 and honestly, I hated that interior. Felt like I was in the Stone Age. The gauges were so dated, and the shifter was the worst. That little weird thing that you could only put a finger through, then that almost hidden button to put it in park?!? Everytime I get inside my W213 I just look at everything and can’t get over how well done and amazing it looks. 👍🏼

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Good thing is: Less moving parts = less things to break.

MB is simply having design catered to the demographics of its buyers...and this is the result. Soon it will spread across all Klasse via the current matryoshka-doll way of designing. Gone are the days where each Klasse is distinctive. MB's research result from a few years ago support this is what most of their customers want. Interestingly, at the same time, the average cost of a new MB has risen around $45K since 2019, according to a recent article.

I prefer the opposite, I equate luxury with having quality leather/wood/metal/gauges, fitted and finished nicely, and no unintegrated iPad; good example is current Bentley interior...different price range, I know. Each to his own.

I went to check out the EQS SUV and that console felt pretty good in that car - with the quality of the interior it felt right for that vehicle. And it sort of seems like the logical conclusion to the way things are going - all-or-nothing screen approach. The middle ground between buttons/knobs/wheels and screens is what we have now with the nonsense capacitive and trackpad stuff - it's terrible. My 2020 GT53 - having spent three years with it now - I would not buy another MB with that interface tech it is that bad. I like the touch screen tech of my e63 wagon (had it on the CLS 450 that I sold as well), though the steering wheel is currently incomprehensible to me (only four days in though - i expect it will grow on me...).

Physical buttons and high quality materials will define luxury going forward, the auto industry moving towards screens and haptic touch feedback for simple functionality is strictly a cost saving move and it will always appear as such. These belong in econoboxes not high end luxury cars. They'll eventually come full circle back to it and charge more.

Another reason i'll be keeping the W213 forever.
