I received my module and cable from RJ yesterday. I wasn't able to get a remote session scheduled for today, but got one scheduled for Monday.

A downside to the remote thing, I was hoping to have it activated for tonight's late night cruise, but first-world problems, lol.

I'm looking forward to the better lighting!

My session with RJ went great but make sure you have a strong uninterrupted WIFI signal for at least half hour. I thought I did but the tech at the other end kept telling me WIFI was sketchy and going in and out. I ended up putting the car in the garage closer to the router in the house

Thanks for the heads-up! I'm on fiber and have solid WiFi, but I do have a 100' RJ45 cable around here somewhere, so I should dig it up in case I need to go Ethernet.

Thanks!

I used a different coder/company but he also used full remote no-hassle (cable only) coding method. The wifi vs ethernet issue is not just speed related; I think Ethernet was more stable for this method. Something about latency. I was advised to use ethernet regardless. Wifi would still work I guess, but if you have a long cable just use it instead to be on the safe side and save time.

I did some coding with RJ just a month ago. Car was in garage and I have a WiFi access point directly above my car. We had no issues and the whole process took about 15min. No need for hardwire Ethernet.

Who did you use? Do they have a website with their pricing?

You are right. Ethernet is always more stable than Wifi. Very similar to listening to music in your car by radio compared to music on your hard drive. On your hard drive you won't lose your music going through a tunnel.

No member can block a sponsor. Just FYI. This also has nothing to do with moderation as this is handled by others...

I used the word block, but my intention was "ignore", as that's the only option available to us.

Thank you for your response. Respectfully, whomever is handling the behavior of sponsors here is failing to provide any relief to the members here that are repeatedly having their threads hijacked by this sponsors' nonsense and self promotion.

I thought that's why sponsors had their own threads, so they can promote their products there. Which is a good thing, we need and want to support good sponsors of this forum.

But when they "go rouge", we need your help to keep things in-check.

Thank you!

My remote session with RJ Automotive was just completed for ILS+ activation.

It was a great and painless experience! From the time I plugged into the OBD port until completion: 8 minutes.

FYI: I had to disable/turn off Windows Defender Firewall to allow AnyDesk to connect.

Looking forward to the darkness tonight to check this s**t out! Woot.

Awesome! Do you mind, out of curiosity, just kind of explain what they did? Did they log in, install some SCN coding software on your laptop and go to town? Or...?

Congrats! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. But I'm scratching my head about the remote desktop bit. Isn't it just about plugging the module into the OBD port and picking options?Maybe it's just the tech side of me, but I won't ever put something like AnyDesk on my system and turn off my firewall, unless I trust that person big time. You open up a can of worms with this, especially if you're like me and don't want strangers poking around in your personal information like passwords, work stuff, etc... Turning off your firewall and popping AnyDesk on leaves you extremely vulnerable to the person on the other side who can really maek your life miserable if they know what they're doing.

I'm not saying this to put you or anyone off RJ Auto - far from it. I'm just trying to help people realize the amount of trust and data you're handing over when you allow RDA. Sure, there are good uses for a tool like AnyDesk, and I hope this is one of them. But it's good to know what you're getting into.

Yup, you have it exactly right. Once they connected to the laptop through AnyDesk, they uploaded their toolkit as a zip file, extracted the tools, connected to the car's system (USB to OBD) and made their modifications. It was all over before I knew it, super quick.

Thanks dude! You make valid points and I agree with what you're saying. However RJ Automotive is an actual registered company, not just some random dude in a basement, lol.

Even with that being said, I would never recommend giving remote access to anyone from a system or network that you have personal information on or connected to a network that has access to the same.

I used a burner laptop and was connected to an isolated VLAN within my network. I know some things.

Great advice!

Super smart idea with a secondary laptop or VM along with a VLAN, you definitely are on top of it. And yeah RJ is a great name, but just putting some information out there for others who may be unaware.

Yes, I'm glad you brought this up because you are right. In our age of everything being connected, the best model to follow in these cases is zero trust.

Not paranoia, but data safety.

Especially given there are some sketchy people providing these types of services that have weak characters and morals.

Although this isn't a 100% post connection solution, one should undo the firewall changes and uninstall any software that was installed. A complete AV scan would make sense also, though you should have your AV set up to do this automatically (some software does this inherently or by default).

More great advice and agreed!

In my case, the entire OS got wiped as I used one of my laptops that's intended just for things like this (never any personal data).

So… after going for a fairly long drive last night on a wide variety of roads and lightning conditions, I am blown-away by the functionality of these headlights with ILS+. It's almost unbelievable how well it works and it feels like voodoo magic.

It is massively impressive to me how it blocks out light around other vehicles and tracks their movements. It's really something that needs to be witnessed live to appreciate.

Also, it started raining towards the end of my drive and I was also impressed by how the headlights eliminated the shine/glare returning from the wet road surface. Amazing stuff.

For anyone with a US or Canada market car during the years this was disabled from the factory and that drive at night, you NEED this activated! Not only is it really cool, it adds a whole new level of safety at night.

ILS+ is ILS+ no matter what vendor you obtain the activation from and there are plenty of choices out there.

Based upon my experience, I can highly recommend RJ Automotive. Smooth, easy transactions and you can schedule your remote session using an online scheduler. Everything went perfectly and the total I spent was $285 US.

I'm a super happy camper!

Thank you moderators!!!

His main account also got banned by the way after several clashes with others and instances of disrespecting forum users who make this forum great.

This situation is absolutely insane (or was insane) but it has been all discovered. Kudos to the moderators but also kudos to members who voiced their opinion. Choose the people you want to work with wisely. I praise morals and ethics and reputation over anything else

Very well spoken S_W222 and I agree. My faith in the moderation here is being restored and I'm glad for all the members here that have endured all the BS caused by this sponsor.

I don't know the exact reason this action was taken, but I know there are at least 2 primary justifiable reasons:

A singular person using multiple accounts for malicious or deceitful behavior.

Repeatedly disrupting and derailing open public threads by being hateful and disrespectful to members.

Out of his multiple BenzNinja accounts (not counting the others under random names), BenzNinja, BenzNinja S1 and BenzNinja SII are banned. BenzNinja USA is still active, so maybe he's been given a second chance.

I hope this doesn't turn into a BenzNinja bash-fest because I don't think that's helpful in any way.

It may be wise for us to chill, let the mods do their thing and we get back to enjoying this great forum without the hate from this sponsor!

I feel for chanzero who has had this otherwise great thread muddied-up with this BS.

Hah, I'm happy to lend my thread to the greater good of the forums

I'll add a 3rd justifiable reasoning for his banning - threatening users in private messages if they push back against him in a public thread.
