E63s - why is jack socket covered with plastic?
In preparation to check the winter wheels fit, I was surprised that jack point wells are lined with plastic. Why would they do this?
I have a pair of these : https://jackpointjackstands.com/prod...ock-pads-pair/ and I'm wondering if metal part will cause the plastic to crack.

I ordered this pad from Amazon: . But, while it fits quite snugly, the circular base is not high enough, it doesn't clear side skirts. Plus, the rectangular area in the middle doesn't reach all the way up, so the car is supported only by the circular base.
So, given that this plan didn't work, I wanted to see what's under that piece of plastic. Turns out there is an oily hole (I suppose to prevent water from entering).
Putting the plastic jack pad back was not trivial, as the attaching mechanism stayed inside - it's similar to the one used by dry wall bolts (expands as the fastener is tightened).
After putting it back, I used the Jackpoint Jackstand plate I linked at the begging of this thread. After lowering the vehicle, I checked the plastic piece again - besides some texture change, it's good as new:
So, while extra care is needed when lifting the car, both Jackpoint and Reverse Logic (https://reverselogic.ecwid.com/Jack-...C218-p21256090 ?) pads will work. But, it seems that Reverse Logic exchanged hands recently, so product availability is non-existent. What I like about Reverse Logic's pad is that it has more surface area, while Jacpoint plate has a space in the middle to support weld lifting points.
