Midpipe vs downpipe?

So the guy who installed my EVM yesterday swore up and down against adding catted downpipes because as he put it, they will eventually fail and I’ll be unable to pass inspection, which in MA is a huge issue. He suggested doing a midpipe with a secondary cat delete vs just a secondary cat delete if a midpipe wasn’t of interest. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

My main goal is increasing the sound with less focus on increase in power. I know that technically a downpipe is a better overall modification because it does both well. Has anyone does a midpipe or a secondary cat delete by itself for more sound? Is this even a thing?

TIA for the information!

I've seen a few secondary cat deletes on the forum. They provide a good boost in sound. If you're not about increasing the power while passing emissions, it's a good idea.

Any idea how to do a secondary cat delete? What’s usually involved?

I haven't done it myself so I couldn't tell you.
