Daily driving e43 amg

Long story short I drive alot and am looking to daily an e43 amg to the tune of 25000 miles a year. Is this realistic or is it just too many costs?

it sure depends on what you consider "too many costs"

what dollar cost per year is your threshold?

it also depends on what the condition of the used vehicle is. A beat up poorly treated used, Honda Accord won't tolerate 25,000 miles a year, but a very well-maintained Mercedes E 43 may very well be just fine. Need more details

I always buy well maintained and do my background info on them. I'm currently driving a c300 that much for 2.5 years and it's up to date. It's got 184000 on it and strong. It feels like a new one.

sounds like you're perfect at buying used cars. Check.

not sure what the answer is to your original concern:

what is too much money to you per year that would be prohibitive to own an e43; your story about a c300 doesn't really help answer this

It does, im up to date on high mileage c300. I'd imagine the e43 would be slightly more. But I don't know about a 25000 mile a year situation. I spend a couple thousand already

So, an E43 is not a full fledged AMG such as an E63, but here are some thoughts when it comes to stepping up in the performance range. Typically with an AMG you pay an AMG tax. Parts tend to be more expensive as they are designed to have a higher performance envelope. They will also have upgraded brakes that are tuned for performance with pads that typically don't last as long as in a typical commuter car and the brake parts as said cost more when the time comes to replace. Similarly, tires on an AMG are more aggressive and the alignment is typically more aggressive, and the result is shorter tread life. AMGs also typically have additional scheduled maintenance items such as transmission flushes where regular models usually use lifetime fluid other than for the engine. Although again, an E43 doesn't have things like a locking rear differential that needs regular service.

Fundamentally, expect higher service costs and shorter life of the typical wear & tear parts. The gamut can be large and I don't really know where the E43 sits in terms of these wear items, but for reference with my C63S coupe I need new brakes about every 16k miles, new front tires about every 8k miles and new rear tires about every 12k miles. Won't be as extreme with a 43 and I do drive my car spirited. Obviously the latter is another factor. What tends to happen as you step up to performance models is that you inevitably start driving more spirited, which further speeds up the wear & tear of brakes and tires and your fuel costs will be higher even if you don't change your driving style given the bigger engine.

it'll be significantly more than $2000/year to drive a used e43 25k miles a year .. double or triple if you use dealers for service. If you use Indy's then cheaper and if you do all your own work - then cheapest

based on what I've learned about you, between you offering the limited info that you have and me reading your mind, you should pass on buying a used e43. Unless of course the e43 is your dream car.

@Keith66 can offer good insight

good luck
