Continental DWS06 Installation and First Impressions
got 5.5 years(14,000 miles)out of them. 2019 CLS 53 AMG
Yearly alignments and constant pressure checks and pothole and rough asphalt avoidance best I could.
The front inner treads shredded at 14,000. See photos.
Replaced with Continental DWS 06 Plus Performance All Season.
What a difference in handling in the dry. Let's just say I am a little displeased with the dry performance comparison vs the OEM Pirelli PZero run flats run flats.
I typically drive in the comfort and economy setting rarely switching to sport or sport plus. The car is leaning much mor in turns and I could definitely feel the difference in swooping curves and coming off the freeway off ramps. The noise and comfort difference is not significant. It is improved about 15% in my opinion.
Pirelli has a guarantee to take the tires back within 60 days. Has anybody ever use that guarantee?
I chose these tires because of the 560 AA wear rating and the possibility of taking the car to the mountains once in a while otherwise this car Never sees freezing temperatures and very little rain. Mostly dry year round with 55F-75F avg.
What should I do?
I'd replaced the stock Pirelli tires at ~10,000 miles with new PS4S due to the worn sidewall even though the rest the tread depth is totally fine. The front PS4S tires went a bit longer, maybe close to 14,000 miles for the same issue - tire alignment verified ask OK. Didn't replace the rear tires at that time as they still looked good. Kept checking the rear tires for wear and they were still looking good, then one day had a leak develop on one of the rear. Took it to Discount tire nearby thinking I'd picked up a nail. Nope, sidewall was shredded just like the front tires. The tires look fine from the rear or the side, but if you lay down on the ground or stick your phone's camera under the car then you can see the wear.
Replaced with new PS5something. This is supposedly a multi-compound tire designed with a harder compound on the inner edge where the wear due to the high camber occurs. We'll see how they last.
Talked to a tow truck driver and he said this issue is really common to all the German auto sport sedans.

Expensive “AMG PERFORMANCE” MODEL - you would expect being able to simply dial in Front Camber and Caster along with Rear Camber allowing to adjust tire contact angles. Suit your driving conditions.
Not to discover ex-factory a full front and rear ‘4’ wheel alignment is now only basic TOE - “directional” adjustment. New car industry’s best kept secret.
That now Camber and Caster “is one setting” - to suit only showroom height conditions.
No adjustment to compensate for excess inner edge tire wear passengers side through high cambered roads. Or excess inner edge wear both sides through altered height or load carrying.
Brought about through cost cutting and ever increasing speed of new car assembly lines. Onus is now back on owners to fund costly premature tire replacement !
Similar outer edge wear through spirited driving (or track days wanting to be able to dial in extra negative Camber to significantly reduce understeer. Allowing to go deeper into corners with increased traction and braking response).
We have designed both Front and Rear K-MAC kits to require no special tools or need to remove control arms to install.
Then unique patented design allows easily accessible single wrench adjustment. Ultimate - direct on alignment rack UNDER LOAD.
